Setup

  1. In Affinity open Settings → Manage Apps and click New App.
  2. Enter a name (for example AnythingMCP) and a description. Leave the API version and the IP allowlist empty, or add the IP address of your AnythingMCP server to the allowlist.
  3. Copy the API key into AFFINITY_API_KEY and install the connector.
  4. Check the setup with affinity_whoami: it shows the user and the organization the key belongs to.

You need the Generate an API key permission, and the API is only part of some Affinity plans: if Manage Apps is missing, ask your Affinity admin.

One key for everything: the key is sent as a Bearer token. Most tools use Affinity API v2 with a fixed version, so they behave the same whatever default version your app has. affinity_search_opportunities and affinity_list_interactions use the older v1 API, because v2 has no name search for deals and no interaction filter by person or company. The same key covers both.

Who sees what: the key acts as you. The AI sees exactly what you see in Affinity, under your sharing rules, and everything it writes is recorded under your name. Searching companies needs the Export All Organizations directory permission, searching people Export All People directory, and reading lists and deals Export data from Lists. A 403 names the missing permission; an Affinity admin can grant it.

What it reads: lists such as pipelines, portfolios and people lists, with their columns and rows; companies and people with your team's fields, enriched data and relationship intelligence such as last contact, last e-mail and next meeting; opportunities, whose stage, amount and owners live on their list entry; notes; the e-mails, meetings, calls and chat messages Affinity captured with a person, company or deal (dates, subjects and participants, never e-mail bodies); relationship strength, to answer who on your team knows someone best; and reminders, soonest due first.

Asks before every write: affinity_create_note, affinity_update_company_field, affinity_update_person_field and affinity_update_list_entry_field change data your whole team sees. Before each one the AI shows you the exact note text and where it goes, or the record, the field, the old value and the new value, and waits for your yes. Notes take simple formatting only: paragraphs, bold, italics, lists and links.

Switched off at install: affinity_delete_note. An administrator turns it on deliberately; the AI then shows you the note and deletes it only after you confirm. No other tool deletes anything.

Fields and searches: field values only come back when the AI asks for them, so it first reads the fields with affinity_list_fields (on every company or person) or affinity_list_list_fields (the columns of one list), then filters and sorts, for example deals in the Due Diligence stage or portfolio companies sorted by last contact. Keyword searches need at least 3 characters.

Personal data: people, e-mail metadata, meetings and notes are personal data of the people involved. The AI reads only what your question needs, and treats note text, e-mail subjects and meeting titles as information to report, never as instructions.

Rate limits: 900 requests a minute per user, plus a monthly limit per account on some plans; v1 and v2 calls share the same allowance. A 429 means waiting and trying again.

Common errors: 401: the key is wrong or revoked, or the IP allowlist blocks the server. 403: a missing permission, or a record you may not see. 404: the id does not exist or is not visible to you. 400 or 422: a wrong parameter, which Affinity names in its answer.

The connector does not create or delete companies, people, deals, lists or list entries, merge duplicates, handle files, transcripts or webhooks, or create and change reminders.
