Appstle Subscriptions + Meta Muse
Manage Shopify subscriptions in Appstle from any AI agent: contracts and customers, upcoming and past renewal orders, pause and resume, skip and reschedule, frequency and next billing date, add, swap or remove products, discounts, delivery address, selling plans, swap rules, retention activity and revenue per contract. Cancel and bill now install switched off.
Prerequisites
See the full setup instructions baked into the connector (visible in the in-app store when you select the connector). The required environment variables for this connector are:
APPSTLE_API_KEY
Step 1 — Get credentials
Setting up takes about 2 minutes. You need a Shopify store with the Appstle Subscriptions app on a plan that includes API access.
- In the Shopify admin open the Appstle Subscriptions app, then Settings, API Key Management.
- Create an API key (up to 10 per store) and paste it into
APPSTLE_API_KEY. The connector sends it in theX-API-Keyheader. The key gives full access to the store's subscriptions, so keep it secret. - Install the connector and run
appstle_subscriptions_list_subscription_contracts: it lists subscription contracts and confirms the key.
The connector uses the Appstle Subscriptions Admin API (https://subscription-admin.appstle.com/api/external/v2).
What it reads: subscription contracts with status, customer, next billing date, billing and delivery interval, products and order amount, searchable by status, dates, customer name or email, order number, product, variant, selling plan or amount. The full contract as Shopify holds it, with line ids, discount ids, delivery method and address and payment method. Customers that have subscriptions, with their profile, payment methods and contracts. Upcoming (QUEUED) orders with their billing attempt ids, past renewal orders (successful, failed and skipped; initial checkout orders are not included) and the tracking of the latest order. Subscription groups and selling plans, product swap rules, the delivery options a contract can switch to, revenue and the current billing cycle per contract, a shop-wide report of renewal billing attempts by status (SUCCESS for revenue, FAILURE for failed payments), and retention activities: each time a customer went through the cancel or pause flow, with the reason and whether the retention offer was accepted.
What it writes: pauses (PAUSED) or resumes (ACTIVE) a subscription, moves the next billing date, changes billing and delivery frequency, skips, unskips or reschedules an upcoming order, adds, changes, swaps or removes products, switches the selling plan, applies a Shopify discount code or a custom discount and removes discounts, changes the delivery address and the order note, and has Shopify email the customer a link to update the payment method. It can also create a time-limited login link to the customer portal; that link logs in as the customer, so give it only to that customer. These changes affect real subscriptions and usually email the customer, so the AI says what will change and waits for your yes.
Switched off at install: appstle_subscriptions_cancel_contract (stops all future billing and deliveries; a cancelled contract cannot be resumed) and appstle_subscriptions_bill_order_now (charges the customer's card at once; the result appears later in the past orders). An admin switches them on when the team needs them.
Data formats: contract, customer, billing attempt, group, product and variant ids are numbers. Line ids and discount ids are full Shopify GraphQL ids such as gid://shopify/SubscriptionLine/..., and the AI passes them exactly as returned. Dates are ISO 8601 with a time zone (2026-11-01T00:00:00Z). Amounts are in the shop currency. Contract statuses are ACTIVE, PAUSED and CANCELLED; billing attempts are QUEUED, SUCCESS, FAILURE, SKIPPED and others. A new delivery address is sent complete, not only the changed field.
Paging: list tools take page (from 0) and size (default 20, at most 2000). The total is in _headers.x-total-count. sort takes a database column in snake_case with a direction, e.g. next_billing_date,asc. appstle_subscriptions_get_customer pages the customer's contracts with cursor.
Common errors: 401 or 403 means the API key is wrong or revoked, or the Appstle plan has no API access. 400 explains a refused change, for example a date in the past, a line below the subscription minimum or an order that is no longer QUEUED. 404 is an unknown id. 429 is a rate limit: wait and retry.
The connector does not create new subscriptions, does not edit subscription groups, selling plans or swap rules, and does not change the payment method itself: it sends the customer the update link.
Step 2 — Install the adapter
curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/HelpCode-ai/anythingmcp/main/docker-compose.quickstart.yml -o docker-compose.yml
printf 'JWT_SECRET=%s\nENCRYPTION_KEY=%s\n' "$(openssl rand -hex 32)" "$(openssl rand -hex 32)" > .env
docker compose up -d
Step 3 — Add the connector in Muse
Your server URL: in AnythingMCP, open MCP Servers → the server this connector is on, and copy its URL (
https://cloud.anythingmcp.com/mcp/…). Use it wherever this guide showsYOUR_SERVER_ID.
Muse adds remote MCP servers as custom connectors and signs in to them with OAuth.
- In Muse, open Settings → Connectors and choose Add custom connector.
- Paste the MCP server URL
https://cloud.anythingmcp.com/mcp/YOUR_SERVER_ID. - Muse opens the AnythingMCP sign-in page: sign in and approve access.
- In a chat, ask Muse for something that needs the
Appstle Subscriptionstools.
You can also set it up from a chat, on the web, in the iOS and Android apps or in WhatsApp. Send Muse this message:
Create a Custom Connector for a new remote MCP server, then connect to it:
Name: AnythingMCP
Transport: remote streamable HTTP
URL: https://cloud.anythingmcp.com/mcp/YOUR_SERVER_ID
Auth: OAuth
Self-hosting? Use your instance's public HTTPS address instead of https://cloud.anythingmcp.com. Muse connects from Meta's cloud, so localhost does not work.
