Summary
Let your AI read your Brex account: cards, card and business account transactions, statements, expenses, budgets, spend limits, vendors, users and trips. Read-only API token; it cannot send money. Card lock and expense memo actions are optional and off by default.

Brex + Microsoft Copilot
Let your AI read your Brex account: cards, card and business account transactions, statements, expenses, budgets, spend limits, vendors, users and trips. Read-only API token; it cannot send money. Card lock and expense memo actions are optional and off by default.
Prerequisites
See the full setup instructions baked into the connector (visible in the in-app store when you select the connector). The required environment variables for this connector are:
BREX_API_TOKEN
Step 1 — Get credentials
It cannot move money, by design. The connector has no tool for transfers, payments, bill pay, ACH, wires, checks, new cards or limit changes, not even a switched-off one. Asking the AI to pay someone will not work. Your finance team gets answers about spend without opening a new way for money to leave the account.
- Sign in to
https://dashboard.brex.comas an account admin or card admin and open Developer, then Settings. Accept the developer API terms if Brex asks. - Click Create Token, give it a name such as AnythingMCP and select only the read-only scopes the connector uses:
companies.readonly,users.readonly,departments.readonly,locations.readonly,cards.readonly,accounts.card.readonly,accounts.cash.readonly,transactions.card.readonly,transactions.cash.readonly,statements.card.readonly,statements.cash.readonly,expenses.card.readonly,budgets.readonly,vendors.readonly,travel.trips.readonly. Leave out the ones you do not need; the matching tools then answer 403. - Never select
transfers,incoming_transfersorcards.pan. They let software move money or read full card numbers, and this connector needs neither. - Click Allow Access, copy the token (it starts with
bxt_) intoBREX_API_TOKENand install the connector. Brex shows the token only once. - Check the setup with
brex_get_company: it shows your company's legal name and account type.
Read-only token: a token with only .readonly scopes cannot change anything in Brex.
Switched off at install: brex_lock_card and brex_unlock_card (for a lost card or suspected fraud; the card owner is notified) and brex_update_expense_memo (writes the business purpose and overwrites the old memo). To use them, an admin creates a token that also has the cards scope for the card actions or expenses.card for the memo, and switches the tool on. The AI then shows you the card name and last four digits, or the expense and the new memo, and waits for your yes. Brex's cards scope would also let other software issue cards; this connector has no such tool.
Financial data is sensitive: balances, transactions, expenses, cards and employee details are confidential company data. Share the MCP server only with people allowed to see them; the AI reads only what you ask for. Full card numbers, CVCs and bank account and routing numbers are never returned: cards show the last four digits, and the bank details of accounts and vendors are removed.
What it reads: company, users, departments and locations; cards with their spend controls; card account balances and limit, settled card transactions and card statements; business (cash) accounts with their transactions and statements; expenses (card, bill pay and reimbursement) with receipts and compliance status, where DUE and OVERDUE find expenses still missing a receipt or memo; budgets and spend limits with what has been spent; vendors; and Brex Travel trips. Pending card authorizations are not included, and Brex can post a transaction a few days late.
Amounts: Brex gives amounts in the smallest currency unit, so 700 in USD means 7.00 USD. The AI converts them before showing them.
Limits and tokens: 1,000 requests per 60 seconds per account. A token unused for 90 days expires, and a token stops working when its user is no longer active. You can revoke it at any time under Developer, Settings. Brex has no sandbox, so the connector always reads live data.
Common errors: 401, or 403 "Invalid or Revoked Token": the token is wrong, revoked or expired; create a new one. 403 on some tools only: the token lacks that tool's scope, or its user lacks the Brex role (most data needs an account admin). 404: the id does not exist in this Brex account. 429: wait a minute.
The connector does not move money, issue or terminate cards, change limits or budgets, approve expenses, upload receipts or manage users and webhooks.
Step 2 — Install the adapter
curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/HelpCode-ai/anythingmcp/main/docker-compose.quickstart.yml -o docker-compose.yml
printf 'JWT_SECRET=%s\nENCRYPTION_KEY=%s\n' "$(openssl rand -hex 32)" "$(openssl rand -hex 32)" > .env
docker compose up -d
Step 3 — Add the connector in Microsoft Copilot
Your server URL: in AnythingMCP, open MCP Servers → the server this connector is on, and copy its URL (
https://cloud.anythingmcp.com/mcp/…). Use it wherever this guide showsYOUR_SERVER_ID.
Microsoft Copilot uses MCP servers through agents built in Copilot Studio: you add AnythingMCP to an agent as a tool, then publish the agent to Microsoft 365 Copilot and Teams. Copilot Studio connects from Microsoft's cloud over Streamable HTTP, which AnythingMCP supports.
- In Copilot Studio, open your agent (or create one), go to Tools and choose Add a tool → New tool → Model Context Protocol.
- Enter a Server name (for example
AnythingMCP), a Server description that says what the connector does, and the Server URLhttps://cloud.anythingmcp.com/mcp/YOUR_SERVER_ID. Copilot Studio uses the description to decide when to call the server. - Under authentication, choose API key, set Type to Header and the header name to
X-API-Key, then select Create. - In Add tool, choose Create a new connection, paste an MCP API key from AnythingMCP (MCP Servers → your server → API keys) and select Add to agent.
- Try it in the agent's Test pane: ask for something that needs the
Brextools. - Select Publish, then Channels → Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Teams, keep Make agent available in Microsoft Copilot selected and choose Add channel. See agent in Teams installs it for you; in Microsoft 365 Copilot, type @ and pick the agent.
Prefer per-user sign-in? Choose OAuth 2.0 → Dynamic discovery instead of an API key: each user then signs in to AnythingMCP the first time the agent calls it.
Self-hosting? Use your instance's public HTTPS address instead of https://cloud.anythingmcp.com. Copilot Studio connects from Microsoft's cloud, so localhost does not work.

FAQ
Which Copilot is this for? Microsoft 365 Copilot at work, through agents built in Copilot Studio. The Microsoft Copilot app for personal accounts has no option to add your own MCP server.
What do I need? A work account with access to Copilot Studio (a license or a trial) to build the agent. People who use it in Microsoft 365 Copilot or Teams need access to the agent: share it with them, or ask an admin to publish it to the organization. If your organization applies data policies to Power Platform connectors, they cover MCP servers too.
The agent doesn't call the tools. Check that the header name is exactly X-API-Key and that the key belongs to the same MCP server as the URL, and make the server description specific: Copilot Studio uses it to decide when to call the server. Publish the agent again after each change; in an open chat, type "start over" to get the new version.
