Clover + Microsoft Copilot
Clover point of sale (Fiserv) for one merchant: business details and settings, inventory items with stock, categories, tax rates, discounts and modifiers, orders with line items, payments, refunds and tenders, customers, employees and shifts. It creates and updates items, stock, categories, orders and customers. North America, Europe, Latin America or sandbox.
Prerequisites
See the full setup instructions baked into the connector (visible in the in-app store when you select the connector). The required environment variables for this connector are:
CLOVER_API_TOKEN, CLOVER_MERCHANT_ID, CLOVER_API_URL
Step 1 β Get credentials
Setting up takes about 5 minutes. You need a Clover merchant account (or a test merchant) and an admin user who can create API tokens.
- Sign in to the Clover Merchant Dashboard as an admin and open Settings, View all settings, API tokens (under Account and setup, Business operations). Create a token and tick the permissions the tools need: Merchant read, Inventory read and write, Orders read and write, Payments read, Customers read and write, Employees read. For a test merchant, do the same from the Global Developer Dashboard (Test merchants, Launch dashboard).
- Paste the token into
CLOVER_API_TOKEN. It is sent asAuthorization: Bearer <token>. - Set
CLOVER_MERCHANT_IDto the 13-character merchant id (mId). It is in the dashboard address.../merchants/<mId>/...and under Account and setup, Merchants. - Set
CLOVER_API_URLto the region of the merchant:https://api.clover.com(North America),https://api.eu.clover.com(Europe),https://api.la.clover.com(Latin America) orhttps://apisandbox.dev.clover.com(sandbox). - Install the connector and run
clover_get_merchant: it shows the business name and confirms the token.
What it reads: the merchant with clover_get_merchant, clover_get_merchant_address and clover_get_merchant_properties (currency, time zone, locale, tips and tax settings), order types and employee roles; inventory items with clover_list_items and clover_get_item (price, price type, SKU, code, cost; expand categories, tax rates, modifier groups or stock), stock with clover_list_item_stocks and clover_get_item_stock, categories with clover_list_categories, clover_get_category and clover_list_category_items, plus tax rates, predefined discounts and modifier groups; orders with clover_list_orders and clover_get_order (expand lineItems and payments), their line items and order discounts; payments with clover_list_payments, clover_get_payment, clover_list_order_payments and clover_list_employee_payments (handy for tips and sales per employee), refunds with clover_list_refunds and clover_get_refund, tenders with clover_list_tenders and clover_get_tender; customers with clover_list_customers and clover_get_customer (expand emailAddresses, phoneNumbers and addresses); employees with clover_list_employees and clover_get_employee, and clock-in shifts with clover_list_shifts and clover_list_employee_shifts.
What it writes: items with clover_create_item and clover_update_item; stock with clover_update_item_stock, which sets an absolute quantity, not a difference, so the AI reads the current stock first; categories with clover_create_category and clover_update_category; customers with clover_create_customer and clover_update_customer. Orders in one call: clover_calculate_order returns totals, taxes, discounts and service charges without saving, then clover_create_atomic_order creates the same cart. Step by step: clover_create_order, clover_add_line_item, clover_add_order_discount and clover_update_order. Clover updates a record with a POST to its address. Orders and stock changes show up on the merchant's devices and in the reports at once, so the AI shows you what it will change and waits for your yes.
Switched off at install: clover_void_line_item, clover_delete_order and clover_delete_customer. They cannot be undone, so a workspace admin switches them on when the team needs them.
Filters: filter takes a list of conditions, each field operator value, for example ["createdTime>=1767225600000", "createdTime<1767830400000"]; they are combined with AND. Time filters on orders, payments and refunds cover at most 90 days per request, so the AI splits longer periods into 90-day windows. expand adds related records in the same call (comma-separated).
Data formats: lists come as {elements: [...], href}. Money is an integer in cents of the merchant currency (1999 = 19.99); discounts are negative amounts. Line item quantities (unitQty) are multiplied by 1000. Tax rates are multiplied by 100000 (825000 = 8.25%). Times are Unix epoch milliseconds in UTC; the AI converts them with the time zone from clover_get_merchant_properties. Ids are 13-character strings.
Paging: limit (100 by default, at most 1000) and offset. When a page holds limit elements, the AI asks again with offset plus limit. Nested expanded lists stop at 100 entries.
Limits and common errors: 16 requests per second and 5 concurrent requests per token; above that Clover answers 429 with retry-after. 401 means a wrong or revoked token or the wrong region in CLOVER_API_URL (a sandbox token only works on apisandbox.dev.clover.com). 403 means the token lacks the permission for that data: edit the token in the Merchant Dashboard and tick it. 404 means a wrong merchant id or record id. 400 usually means an invalid filter field.
The connector does not take card payments or issue refunds: those happen on the Clover device or through the Clover Ecommerce API. It reads tax rates, discounts, modifier groups, employees and shifts but does not change them, and with the tools on at install it deletes nothing.
Step 2 β Install the adapter
curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/HelpCode-ai/anythingmcp/main/docker-compose.quickstart.yml -o docker-compose.yml
printf 'JWT_SECRET=%s\nENCRYPTION_KEY=%s\n' "$(openssl rand -hex 32)" "$(openssl rand -hex 32)" > .env
docker compose up -d
Step 3 β Add the connector in Microsoft Copilot
Your server URL: in AnythingMCP, open MCP Servers β the server this connector is on, and copy its URL (
https://cloud.anythingmcp.com/mcp/β¦). Use it wherever this guide showsYOUR_SERVER_ID.
Microsoft Copilot uses MCP servers through agents built in Copilot Studio: you add AnythingMCP to an agent as a tool, then publish the agent to Microsoft 365 Copilot and Teams. Copilot Studio connects from Microsoft's cloud over Streamable HTTP, which AnythingMCP supports.
- In Copilot Studio, open your agent (or create one), go to Tools and choose Add a tool β New tool β Model Context Protocol.
- Enter a Server name (for example
AnythingMCP), a Server description that says what the connector does, and the Server URLhttps://cloud.anythingmcp.com/mcp/YOUR_SERVER_ID. Copilot Studio uses the description to decide when to call the server. - Under authentication, choose API key, set Type to Header and the header name to
X-API-Key, then select Create. - In Add tool, choose Create a new connection, paste an MCP API key from AnythingMCP (MCP Servers β your server β API keys) and select Add to agent.
- Try it in the agent's Test pane: ask for something that needs the
Clovertools. - Select Publish, then Channels β Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Teams, keep Make agent available in Microsoft Copilot selected and choose Add channel. See agent in Teams installs it for you; in Microsoft 365 Copilot, type @ and pick the agent.
Prefer per-user sign-in? Choose OAuth 2.0 β Dynamic discovery instead of an API key: each user then signs in to AnythingMCP the first time the agent calls it.
Self-hosting? Use your instance's public HTTPS address instead of https://cloud.anythingmcp.com. Copilot Studio connects from Microsoft's cloud, so localhost does not work.

FAQ
Which Copilot is this for? Microsoft 365 Copilot at work, through agents built in Copilot Studio. The Microsoft Copilot app for personal accounts has no option to add your own MCP server.
What do I need? A work account with access to Copilot Studio (a license or a trial) to build the agent. People who use it in Microsoft 365 Copilot or Teams need access to the agent: share it with them, or ask an admin to publish it to the organization. If your organization applies data policies to Power Platform connectors, they cover MCP servers too.
The agent doesn't call the tools. Check that the header name is exactly X-API-Key and that the key belongs to the same MCP server as the URL, and make the server description specific: Copilot Studio uses it to decide when to call the server. Publish the agent again after each change; in an open chat, type "start over" to get the new version.
