Start a free trial on cloud.anythingmcp.com, add the Coinbase in one click, then point your AI client (Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot or Cursor) at the generated MCP endpoint. No Docker, no git clone, zero engineering experience required.
Summary
Let your AI read live crypto market data from Coinbase: prices and 24 hour changes of every trading pair, recent trades, best bid and ask, order book depth, price history as candles, and spot prices in any currency, also for a past day. Public data, no account or key needed. Read-only: it cannot trade or move funds.

Coinbase + Cursor
Let your AI read live crypto market data from Coinbase: prices and 24 hour changes of every trading pair, recent trades, best bid and ask, order book depth, price history as candles, and spot prices in any currency, also for a past day. Public data, no account or key needed. Read-only: it cannot trade or move funds.
Prerequisites
See the full setup instructions baked into the connector (visible in the in-app store when you select the connector). The required environment variables for this connector are:
(none: public data, no API key)
Step 1 — Set up the connector
Public market data, no key: the connector reads Coinbase's public market data. No Coinbase account, API key or sign-in is needed.
- In the connector store, pick Coinbase and install it. There is nothing to paste and no Authorize with Provider step.
- Check it with
coinbase_get_server_time, then ask for a price:coinbase_get_spot_pricewithBTC-EURtells you what one bitcoin costs in euros right now.
It cannot trade or move funds, by design: no tool places, edits or cancels an order, buys, sells or converts crypto, or sends, withdraws or deposits anything, and none can be switched on, because the connector never signs in to a Coinbase account. It cannot see anyone's balances, wallets, portfolios, orders or transactions either. The reason: Coinbase's account APIs need either a key that signs every single request or a Coinbase OAuth app, and Coinbase grants those apps only to approved partners. For your own account data, use the Coinbase app or website.
Not financial advice: prices, volumes and order books are information. The AI does not tell you to buy, sell or hold anything. It shows the numbers with their time and source, and reminds you that crypto prices move fast and can fall sharply.
Valuing holdings you name: tell the AI what you hold, for example 0.5 BTC and 3 ETH. It multiplies each amount by the spot price in your currency and adds them up, also for a past day (date as YYYY-MM-DD), and states the time of the prices it used.
Which tool: price and 24 hour change of one or many pairs with coinbase_list_products or coinbase_get_product; the live best bid and ask and the latest trades with coinbase_get_market_trades; depth and spread with coinbase_get_product_book; history and charts with coinbase_get_candles, from one-minute to one-day candles; a price in another currency or on a past day with coinbase_get_spot_price, which also takes fiat pairs such as USD-EUR.
Pairs: Coinbase writes a pair as BASE-QUOTE in capitals, such as BTC-USD, ETH-EUR or SOL-USDC. Not every pair exists, and a missing one answers 404 "not supported"; the AI can check several pairs in one call with coinbase_list_products.
History and times: one candle request covers fewer than 350 candles, so for a long history the AI picks a larger interval (daily candles cover almost a year). Times come in UTC, and the AI converts them to your time zone.
Limits: the public endpoints are rate limited per IP address; after a 429 the AI waits a few seconds. Coinbase caches market data for about a second. A 400 INVALID_ARGUMENT means a parameter is wrong, for example a window with too many candles.
The connector does not cover account data of any kind, trading, WebSocket streams or derivatives positions.
Step 2 — Install the adapter
curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/HelpCode-ai/anythingmcp/main/docker-compose.quickstart.yml -o docker-compose.yml
printf 'JWT_SECRET=%s\nENCRYPTION_KEY=%s\n' "$(openssl rand -hex 32)" "$(openssl rand -hex 32)" > .env
docker compose up -d
Step 3 — Add the connector in Cursor
Your server URL: in AnythingMCP, open MCP Servers → the server this connector is on, and copy its URL (
https://cloud.anythingmcp.com/mcp/…). Use it wherever this guide showsYOUR_SERVER_ID.
Cursor reads MCP servers from ~/.cursor/mcp.json. Add this entry:
{
"mcpServers": {
"anythingmcp": {
"url": "https://cloud.anythingmcp.com/mcp/YOUR_SERVER_ID",
"headers": { "X-API-Key": "YOUR_MCP_API_KEY" }
}
}
}
- Create an MCP API key in AnythingMCP under MCP Servers → your server → API keys, and paste it in place of
YOUR_MCP_API_KEY. - Save the file and restart Cursor.
- Open Cursor → Settings → MCP and check that
anythingmcpis listed and connected. - Start chatting: the agent can now call the
Coinbasetools.
