eBay Browse (product search) + ChatGPT
Search live eBay listings and read item details with eBay's Browse API: prices, condition, seller, shipping and item specifics, by keyword, category, GTIN or product id. Public marketplace data with an application token, no seller account needed.
Prerequisites
See the full setup instructions baked into the connector (visible in the in-app store when you select the connector). The required environment variables for this connector are:
EBAY_CLIENT_ID, EBAY_CLIENT_SECRET, EBAY_MARKETPLACE_ID
Step 1 — Get credentials
Setting up takes about 5 minutes. You need a free eBay developer account with a production keyset; no eBay seller account and no sign-in.
- Sign in at developer.ebay.com, open Application Keys and create a production keyset (not sandbox).
- Copy the App ID (Client ID) into
EBAY_CLIENT_IDand the Cert ID (Client Secret) of the same keyset intoEBAY_CLIENT_SECRET. - Set
EBAY_MARKETPLACE_IDto the eBay site you want to search, for exampleEBAY_DE,EBAY_USorEBAY_GB. AnythingMCP gets an application token with eBay's client-credentials flow and renews it every two hours by itself. - Install the connector and run
ebay_browse_search_itemswith the keyword book and a limit of 1: it returns one live listing from your marketplace.
Buying side only: this connector searches and reads public listings as a buyer would see them. Selling (your orders, inventory, offers) is the separate eBay Sell connector, which needs a seller's user token. You can install both side by side.
What it reads: active listings on the configured marketplace, found by keyword, category, GTIN (EAN, UPC or ISBN) or eBay product id (ePID), each with title, price, condition, seller name and feedback, shipping options, buying options (fixed price, auction, best offer), item location and the listing URL. For one listing it reads the full description, condition description, item specifics, brand, MPN and GTIN, images, shipping and return terms, available quantity and estimated delivery.
Listing numbers and variations: paste the number from a listing URL (ebay.de/itm/123456789012) and the AI opens it with ebay_browse_get_item_by_legacy_id. A listing with sizes or colours is an item group: ebay_browse_get_item_group returns every variation with its own price and availability.
Searching and filtering: a search needs at least a keyword, a category, a GTIN or an ePID. The AI narrows it with filters such as price:[10..50],priceCurrency:EUR, conditions:{NEW}, buyingOptions:{FIXED_PRICE} or itemLocationCountry:DE, and sorts by price, newly listed or ending soonest (best match otherwise). Filtering on item specifics such as colour also needs a category.
Prices change all the time: prices are strings with a currency, in the marketplace's currency unless the seller lists in another. Price and availability move constantly, so the AI quotes them with the time of the call.
Read-only: there is no write tool. The connector does not buy, bid, make offers or change anything on eBay, so there is nothing to confirm.
Limits: an application keyset starts at 5,000 Browse calls a day. A page holds up to 200 items, and paging stops at 10,000 results (offset plus limit), so for broad searches the AI narrows with filters instead of paging through everything.
Common errors: if eBay refuses the App ID or Cert ID, you most likely pasted sandbox keys: use the keys of a production keyset. A search with no keyword, category, GTIN or ePID is refused. EBAY_MARKETPLACE_ID must look like EBAY_DE, with the EBAY_ prefix.
The connector does not buy or bid, does not sign in to an eBay account, does not search ended or sold listings, and does not manage your own listings, orders or inventory (that is the eBay Sell connector).
Step 2 — Install the adapter
curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/HelpCode-ai/anythingmcp/main/docker-compose.quickstart.yml -o docker-compose.yml
printf 'JWT_SECRET=%s\nENCRYPTION_KEY=%s\n' "$(openssl rand -hex 32)" "$(openssl rand -hex 32)" > .env
docker compose up -d
Step 3 — Add the connector in ChatGPT
Your server URL: in AnythingMCP, open MCP Servers → the server this connector is on, and copy its URL (
https://cloud.anythingmcp.com/mcp/…). Use it wherever this guide showsYOUR_SERVER_ID.
ChatGPT adds MCP servers as plugins on its Plugins page, on the web and on paid plans. Developer mode is no longer needed. In a Business workspace only admins and owners can add one; in Enterprise and Edu an admin can grant the Create plugins with MCPs permission.
- Go to chatgpt.com/plugins, click +, then Add custom MCP server.
- Enter a name, e.g. Name:
eBay Browse (product search). - Under Connection, enter the Server URL
https://cloud.anythingmcp.com/mcp/YOUR_SERVER_IDand keep Authentication on OAuth. - Select I understand and want to continue, then Create as a plugin. When ChatGPT asks, sign in to AnythingMCP and allow access.
- Install the new plugin from your personal plugins, then type @ in a chat and pick it.
