Everhour + Gemini

Track time in Everhour from your AI: find tasks, log and correct time, start and stop timers, and read projects, clients, team time records, invoices, expenses, the schedule and project and user reports.

Prerequisites

See the full setup instructions baked into the connector (visible in the in-app store when you select the connector). The required environment variables for this connector are:

EVERHOUR_API_KEY

Step 1 — Get credentials

  1. Sign in at https://app.everhour.com and open Settings → My Profile (https://app.everhour.com/#/account/profile).
  2. Copy the API Token at the bottom of the page into EVERHOUR_API_KEY and install the connector. It is sent as the X-Api-Key header and only to Everhour.
  3. Check the setup with everhour_get_me: it shows the user the key belongs to, with role and status.

The key acts as you: members see their own time and projects, admins and supervisors see the team. Time the AI logs is recorded for you, unless an admin asks it to log time for someone else.

Time and timers only after your yes: time records feed invoices and payroll. Before everhour_add_time, everhour_update_time_record, everhour_start_timer or everhour_stop_timer the AI tells you the task, the day, the duration and the comment, and waits for you to confirm. It never guesses a task or a duration. everhour_delete_time_record is installed switched off; an admin can turn it on, and even then the AI asks first.

What it reads: users, projects and tasks (also those synced from Asana, Trello, Jira, GitHub and other integrations), clients, time records of the whole team, of one user or of one project, running timers, invoices with their line items, expenses, the resource planner with scheduled work and time off, and project and user reports with billable time, costs, profit and uninvoiced amounts.

Units: Everhour counts time in seconds (3600 is one hour) and money in cents (500 is 5.00). The AI converts both for you.

IDs: projects and tasks carry a platform prefix, ev: for Everhour itself and for example as: for Asana or jr: for Jira. A 404 often means the prefix is missing.

Rate limit: about 20 requests per 10 seconds per key. A 429 says how many seconds to wait.

Common errors: 401 or 403 Access denied: the key is wrong, was regenerated, or your role may not see that data. 422: a field is missing, or the record is locked or already invoiced.

Not covered: creating or changing projects, tasks, clients, invoices and expenses, timecards (clock in and out), timesheet approvals, time off allocations, custom fields and webhooks.

Step 2 — Install the adapter

curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/HelpCode-ai/anythingmcp/main/docker-compose.quickstart.yml -o docker-compose.yml
printf 'JWT_SECRET=%s\nENCRYPTION_KEY=%s\n' "$(openssl rand -hex 32)" "$(openssl rand -hex 32)" > .env
docker compose up -d

Step 3 — Add the connector in Gemini

Your server URL: in AnythingMCP, open MCP Servers → the server this connector is on, and copy its URL (https://cloud.anythingmcp.com/mcp/…). Use it wherever this guide shows YOUR_SERVER_ID.

Gemini CLI reads MCP servers from ~/.gemini/settings.json (on Windows %USERPROFILE%\.gemini\settings.json). Add:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "anythingmcp": {
      "httpUrl": "https://cloud.anythingmcp.com/mcp/YOUR_SERVER_ID",
      "headers": { "X-API-Key": "YOUR_MCP_API_KEY" }
    }
  }
}
  1. Create an MCP API key in AnythingMCP under MCP Servers → your server → API keys, and paste it in place of YOUR_MCP_API_KEY.
  2. Save the file and restart gemini.
  3. Run /mcp inside Gemini CLI (or gemini mcp list in your shell): anythingmcp should show as connected.
  4. Start prompting: Gemini CLI can now call the Everhour tools.

FAQ

Where does Gemini CLI look for MCP servers? In ~/.gemini/settings.json for your user, or in .gemini/settings.json inside a project. gemini mcp list shows each server and whether it connects.
