How to Connect Freepik to Gemini — via MCP

Freepik + Gemini

Freepik stock content and AI images through the Freepik API, now run as the Magnific API: search and download photos, vectors and PSDs, search and download icons, search stock videos, and generate images with Mystic.

Prerequisites

See the full setup instructions baked into the connector (visible in the in-app store when you select the connector). The required environment variables for this connector are:

Step 1 — Get credentials

Freepik's API is now published as the Magnific API (https://api.magnific.com, documentation at docs.magnific.com). The stock catalog is still Freepik's, and existing Freepik API keys keep working.

1. On magnific.com, open your account, then Organization → API keys, and create a key.
2. Paste it into FREEPIK_API_KEY. The connector sends it in the x-magnific-api-key header. There is no OAuth; the key is a server-side secret.
3. Start with freepik_search_resources (photos, vectors, PSDs), freepik_search_icons or freepik_search_videos, and check the licence and formats with freepik_get_resource before downloading.

Credits: the API is billed in credits. Searches and details are cheap. Every call to freepik_download_resource, freepik_download_resource_format and freepik_download_icon registers a download on the account, and freepik_generate_image_mystic spends AI credits. These tools are marked as writes, so the AI client asks before calling them. A 402 means the account has no credits left.

Licences: freemium resources need attribution to Freepik or the author unless the account has a premium plan; premium resources need a plan that includes them. Check licenses[].type before using an asset commercially. Download URLs expire after a short time, so fetch the file right away.

Limits: 10 requests per second averaged over two minutes, and 50 per second per IP in a 5-second window. Mystic generation is asynchronous: poll freepik_get_mystic_task until status is COMPLETED.

Step 2 — Install the adapter

Step 3 — Add the connector in Gemini

Your server URL: in AnythingMCP, open MCP Servers → the server this connector is on, and copy its URL (https://cloud.anythingmcp.com/mcp/…). Use it wherever this guide shows YOUR_SERVER_ID.

Gemini CLI reads MCP servers from ~/.gemini/settings.json (on Windows %USERPROFILE%\.gemini\settings.json). Add:

1. Create an MCP API key in AnythingMCP under MCP Servers → your server → API keys, and paste it in place of YOUR_MCP_API_KEY.
2. Save the file and restart gemini.
3. Run /mcp inside Gemini CLI (or gemini mcp list in your shell) — anythingmcp should show as connected.
4. Start prompting — Gemini CLI can now call the Freepik tools.
