How to Connect idealo to Gemini via MCP

idealo + Gemini

Maintain your shop's offers in the idealo price comparison from an AI agent through idealo's Partner Web Service: read an offer by SKU, and with your approval create or replace offers, change prices, delivery times and titles, or remove offers. For shops listed on idealo.

Prerequisites

See the full setup instructions baked into the connector (visible in the in-app store when you select the connector). The required environment variables for this connector are:

Step 1 — Get credentials

Setting up takes about 3 minutes. You need a shop listed on idealo (a merchant contract with idealo) and access to idealo Business.

1. Sign in to idealo Business and open Shop settings → API clients (business.idealo.com/direct/shops/settings/api-clients).
2. Create an API client with access to the Partner Web Service and copy its client ID and client secret. The secret is shown only once; if you no longer have it, create a new client.
3. Paste the client ID (a UUID) into IDEALO_CLIENT_ID, the secret into IDEALO_CLIENT_SECRET and your numeric shop ID, shown in idealo Business, into IDEALO_SHOP_ID. AnythingMCP exchanges the client credentials for an access token that lasts one hour and renews it by itself.
4. Install the connector and run idealo_get_offer with the SKU of an offer you know is live: it shows the offer as idealo stores it.

What it reads: one offer at a time by its SKU, as idealo stores it: title, price and former price, URL, EANs and manufacturer numbers, brand, delivery and payment costs, delivery time, energy labels, condition and the other offer fields. The Partner Web Service has no list call, so the AI asks you for the SKU.

Offers only, no orders: the Partner Web Service 2.0 is the interface idealo gives listed shops to maintain their offers one by one, instead of or next to the product feed, for idealo.de, .at, .fr, .it, .es and .co.uk. idealo shut down its checkout service (Direktkauf) and its order API in 2023, so orders keep coming in through your own shop.

How offers are written: prices are strings with exactly two decimals, such as "177.99"; the former price is the price before a reduction. A new offer needs at least SKU, title, price, URL, one delivery cost (for example "DHL": "4.90") and one payment cost (for example "PAYPAL": "0.00"), and EANs, manufacturer numbers and brand help idealo match the product. idealo_upsert_offer replaces the whole offer, so any field not sent is removed; idealo_update_offer changes only the fields sent, but cannot change delivery or payment costs, size, colour, gender, material or dynamic product attributes, and list fields such as EANs or images must be sent complete. SKUs may contain letters, digits, underscores, dots and dashes only.

Asks before every change: no write tool is on at install. Once an administrator turns one on, the AI shows you the offer with the old and new values, or names the SKU it would remove, and waits for your yes before anything goes live.

Switched off at install: idealo_upsert_offer, idealo_update_offer and idealo_delete_offer. idealo has no test environment, so every write changes your live offers in the price comparison at once, and a removed offer disappears from idealo. Turn on only the ones the AI may use. Deleting all offers at once is deliberately not offered.

Limits: idealo limits the number of calls; the current limit is shown in the X-RateLimit-Limit header. After a 429 the AI waits before trying again, and it changes offers one at a time.

Common errors: 401 means the client ID or secret is wrong or the token was refused: check them under Shop settings → API clients. 403 means the API client lacks the Partner Web Service right or the shop ID is not yours. 404 means the offer does not exist in this shop (wrong SKU or shop ID). 400 lists fieldErrors with the field and the reason, for example a price without two decimals.

The connector does not read or handle orders, list all your offers, change your product feed or delete all offers at once.

Step 2 — Install the adapter

Step 3 — Add the connector in Gemini

Your server URL: in AnythingMCP, open MCP Servers → the server this connector is on, and copy its URL (https://cloud.anythingmcp.com/mcp/…). Use it wherever this guide shows YOUR_SERVER_ID.

Gemini CLI reads MCP servers from ~/.gemini/settings.json (on Windows %USERPROFILE%\.gemini\settings.json). Add:

1. Create an MCP API key in AnythingMCP under MCP Servers → your server → API keys, and paste it in place of YOUR_MCP_API_KEY.
2. Save the file and restart gemini.
3. Run /mcp inside Gemini CLI (or gemini mcp list in your shell): anythingmcp should show as connected.
4. Start prompting: Gemini CLI can now call the idealo tools.
