Instagram + Meta Muse
Read an Instagram professional (business or creator) account through Meta's Instagram API with Facebook Login: profile, posts, reels and stories, account and post insights, comments and replies, hashtag search and public business profiles. Content publishing is included but installed switched off.
Prerequisites
See the full setup instructions baked into the connector (visible in the in-app store when you select the connector). The required environment variables for this connector are:
INSTAGRAM_ACCESS_TOKEN, INSTAGRAM_ACCOUNT_ID
Step 1 — Get credentials
The connector reads one Instagram professional account (business or creator) that is linked to a Facebook Page, through Meta's Graph API. Personal Instagram accounts have no API access.
- In Meta Business settings, open Users → System users, pick or create a system user and assign it the Facebook Page and the Instagram account as assets.
- Click Generate token, choose your Meta app (with the Instagram product added), set the expiry to Never and grant instagram_basic, instagram_manage_insights, instagram_manage_comments, pages_show_list, pages_read_engagement and business_management. Add instagram_content_publish only if you want to publish. Paste the token into
INSTAGRAM_ACCESS_TOKEN. A long-lived user token from the Graph API Explorer also works, but has to be replaced every 60 days. - Set
INSTAGRAM_ACCOUNT_IDto the Instagram account id, a number starting with 1784 (not the username and not the Page id). Meta Business settings shows it under Accounts → Instagram accounts;instagram_list_linked_accountsreturns it asinstagram_business_account.id. - Call
instagram_get_accountfirst: it checks the setup and returns follower and media counts.
The publishing tools instagram_create_media_container and instagram_publish_media are installed switched off. API publishing is limited to 50 posts per 24 hours, hashtag search to 30 distinct hashtags in a rolling 7 days, and accounts below 100 followers return no demographic insights. Error 190 means the token expired or was revoked; error 10 or 200 means a permission is missing.
Step 2 — Install the adapter
curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/HelpCode-ai/anythingmcp/main/docker-compose.quickstart.yml -o docker-compose.yml
printf 'JWT_SECRET=%s\nENCRYPTION_KEY=%s\n' "$(openssl rand -hex 32)" "$(openssl rand -hex 32)" > .env
docker compose up -d
Step 3 — Add the connector in Muse
Your server URL: in AnythingMCP, open MCP Servers → the server this connector is on, and copy its URL (
https://cloud.anythingmcp.com/mcp/…). Use it wherever this guide showsYOUR_SERVER_ID.
Muse adds remote MCP servers as custom connectors and signs in to them with OAuth.
- In Muse, open Settings → Connectors and choose Add custom connector.
- Paste the MCP server URL
https://cloud.anythingmcp.com/mcp/YOUR_SERVER_ID. - Muse opens the AnythingMCP sign-in page: sign in and approve access.
- In a chat, ask Muse for something that needs the
Instagramtools.
You can also set it up from a chat, on the web, in the iOS and Android apps or in WhatsApp. Send Muse this message:
Create a Custom Connector for a new remote MCP server, then connect to it:
Name: AnythingMCP
Transport: remote streamable HTTP
URL: https://cloud.anythingmcp.com/mcp/YOUR_SERVER_ID
Auth: OAuth
Self-hosting? Use your instance's public HTTPS address instead of https://cloud.anythingmcp.com. Muse connects from Meta's cloud, so localhost does not work.
