How to Connect Interakt to ChatGPT via MCP

Interakt + ChatGPT

Let your AI work with your Interakt WhatsApp Business account: list approved templates, look up and list customers with their traits and tags, add or update customers, record events and assign chats. Sending template and text messages is installed switched off.

Prerequisites

See the full setup instructions baked into the connector (visible in the in-app store when you select the connector). The required environment variables for this connector are:

Step 1 — Get credentials

Setting up takes about 2 minutes. You need an Interakt account on the Growth plan or higher: API access starts there.

1. In Interakt, open Settings → Developer Setting.
2. Copy the Secret Key into INTERAKT_API_KEY exactly as shown, without the word Basic in front. The key is already encoded, and the connector sends it only to api.interakt.ai.
3. Install the connector and run interakt_list_templates: it lists your WhatsApp templates and shows that the key and your plan work.

Phone numbers: most tools take the number without the country code plus the country code on its own, for example 9876543210 and +91 (India is the default). The free-text tool takes the full number without +, for example 919876543210.

What it reads: your WhatsApp templates with their code name, display name, language, category, approval status, header, body with its placeholders, footer and buttons; customers by phone number or Interakt id, with traits such as name, email, WhatsApp opt-in and your own custom traits, plus tags and when they were created and last changed; and customers created or updated in a time window, 100 at a time.

No message history: the Interakt API does not return past messages or delivery status, which only reach Interakt webhooks. The AI cannot tell you whether a customer read a message.

Asks before every change: interakt_upsert_customer creates a customer or updates the one with the same number (traits are merged, tags are added and never removed), interakt_track_event records an event such as Order Placed on a customer's timeline, which can start Interakt automations that message the customer, and interakt_assign_chat assigns a customer's chat in the shared inbox to a team member by email. The AI shows you the customer and the exact change and waits for your yes.

Switched off at install: interakt_send_template and interakt_send_text. They reach the customer at once, and Meta charges the conversation for templates. Free text only works within 24 hours of the customer's last message; outside that window Interakt refuses it and only an approved template works. A template needs exactly one value per placeholder ({{1}}, {{2}} and so on), in order, so the AI reads the template first and counts them; templates with an image or document header also need a public file link. An administrator turns these tools on deliberately, and even then the AI shows you the template or text, the number and the values and waits for your yes. A successful answer means Interakt accepted the message, not that it was delivered.

Limits: Interakt allows 300 requests a minute on Growth and 600 on Advanced, and a single request can be at most 32 KB. After a 429 the AI waits a minute before trying again.

Common errors: 401 means the key is wrong or your plan has no API access: copy the Secret Key again, without Basic, and check that you are on Growth or higher. 400 means a missing or wrong field, and Interakt's message says which, for example "Missing variable values for template's body" when a template value is missing. 429 means the rate limit was reached.

The connector does not create templates, run campaigns, upload media, fall back to RCS or SMS, or manage webhooks.

Step 2 — Install the adapter

Step 3 — Add the connector in ChatGPT

Your server URL: in AnythingMCP, open MCP Servers → the server this connector is on, and copy its URL (https://cloud.anythingmcp.com/mcp/…). Use it wherever this guide shows YOUR_SERVER_ID.

ChatGPT adds MCP servers as plugins on its Plugins page, on the web and on paid plans. Developer mode is no longer needed. In a Business workspace only admins and owners can add one; in Enterprise and Edu an admin can grant the Create plugins with MCPs permission.

1. Go to chatgpt.com/plugins, click +, then Add custom MCP server.
2. Enter a name, e.g. Name: Interakt.
3. Under Connection, enter the Server URL https://cloud.anythingmcp.com/mcp/YOUR_SERVER_ID and keep Authentication on OAuth.
4. Select I understand and want to continue, then Create as a plugin. When ChatGPT asks, sign in to AnythingMCP and allow access.
5. Install the new plugin from your personal plugins, then type @ in a chat and pick it.
