Step 1 — Get credentials
Setting up takes about 2 minutes. You need a Massive API key. Massive is the former Polygon.io, renamed in October 2025, and keys created there keep working.
- Sign up at https://massive.com; the free Basic plan needs no card.
- Open Dashboard > API Keys (https://massive.com/dashboard/keys) and copy the key.
- Paste it into
MASSIVE_API_KEY. It is sent asAuthorization: Bearertohttps://api.massive.com. - Install the connector and run
massive_get_market_status: it shows whether the US markets, forex and crypto are open right now and confirms the key.
What your plan allows (for stocks; options, indices and currencies have their own plans):
- Basic (free): 5 requests per minute, end-of-day data, 2 years of history: aggregates, previous close, daily open and close, reference data, news, dividends, splits, technical indicators, market status, treasury yields and inflation.
- Starter: unlimited requests, 15-minute delayed data, 5 years, plus snapshots and gainers and losers.
- Developer: adds trades and 10 years.
- Advanced: real-time data, full history, quotes, and financial statements and ratios (also available through the Financials expansion). The options chain and option snapshots need an Options Starter plan or higher.
- A call outside your plan answers 403 NOT_AUTHORIZED with a message naming the plan; the AI tells you instead of retrying.
Tickers: stocks are plain (AAPL, BRK.B); options look like O:AAPL271217C00250000 (underlying, expiry YYMMDD, C or P, strike times 1000 in 8 digits); forex C:EURUSD, crypto X:BTCUSD, indices I:SPX. For an unknown symbol the AI searches with massive_list_tickers.
What it reads:
- Market status and upcoming US market holidays and early closes per exchange.
- Price bars of any size, from seconds to years, for stocks, options, forex, crypto and indices; the previous day's bar; one day's open and close with pre-market and after-hours prices.
- Live data: snapshots of one stock or of up to 250 tickers of any asset class, the day's top 20 gainers and losers, last trade and last quote. Tick data: individual trades and NBBO quotes for a day or a time range.
- Reference data: ticker search by name, type, market, exchange, CIK or CUSIP; ticker details with description, market cap, shares outstanding, employees, SIC code and logo; related companies; ticker types and exchanges.
- News with title, publisher, tickers mentioned and per-ticker sentiment with reasoning.
- Financials from SEC filings: quarterly, annual and trailing-twelve-month income statements, balance sheets and cash flow statements, and current ratios such as P/E, EV/EBITDA, ROE or debt to equity, which also work as a stock screener (for example
market_cap_gte,price_to_earnings_lte, sortmarket_cap.desc). - Dividends and splits, past and declared.
- Options: contracts by underlying, type, expiration and strike, the chain with prices, greeks, implied volatility and open interest, and the snapshot of one contract.
- Forex and crypto: currency conversion at the latest rate, last forex quote, last crypto trade.
- SMA, EMA, RSI and MACD for any ticker, plus US treasury yields from 1 month to 30 years and monthly CPI and PCE inflation from the Federal Reserve.
Data formats: bars use short keys: o open, h high, l low, c close, v volume, vw volume-weighted average price, n number of trades, and t the start of the bar as a Unix timestamp in milliseconds (UTC). Trades and quotes carry nanosecond timestamps (sip_timestamp). Prices are in the quote currency; financial statement values are in full units of the reporting currency. Exchanges are numeric ids, listed by massive_list_exchanges.
Paging: lists return next_url when more results exist. For tickers, trades, quotes, news, snapshots and options, the AI passes the value after cursor= in next_url as cursor. For financials, dividends, splits and the economy lists, it narrows the date range or raises limit instead.
Read-only: every tool only reads, so there is nothing to confirm and no tool is switched off at install.
Common errors: 401 means a missing or unknown key ("Unknown API Key"). 403 means the key works but your plan does not include the data (see https://massive.com/pricing). 429 means too many requests; on Basic that is 5 per minute, so wait a minute. An empty results with status OK means there is no data for the range, for example on a holiday.
The connector does not use WebSocket streams, flat files, futures, Benzinga partner data or SEC filing texts. Massive also runs an official MCP server at https://mcp.massive.com.

Your server URL: in AnythingMCP, open MCP Servers → the server this connector is on, and copy its URL (
https://cloud.anythingmcp.com/mcp/…). Use it wherever this guide showsYOUR_SERVER_ID.
ChatGPT adds MCP servers as plugins on its Plugins page, on the web and on paid plans. Developer mode is no longer needed. In a Business workspace only admins and owners can add one; in Enterprise and Edu an admin can grant the Create plugins with MCPs permission.
- Go to chatgpt.com/plugins, click Add, then Add custom MCP server.
- Enter a name, e.g. Name:
Massive. - Under Connection, enter the Server URL
https://cloud.anythingmcp.com/mcp/YOUR_SERVER_IDand keep Authentication on OAuth. - Select I understand and want to continue, then Create as a plugin. When ChatGPT asks, sign in to AnythingMCP and allow access.
