Mixpanel + Microsoft Copilot
Let your AI read your Mixpanel product analytics: event trends, segmentation by any property, saved funnels, retention, frequency, saved Insights reports, cohorts and user profiles, and manage chart annotations. Signs in with a service account; US, EU and India data residency. Reports need the Growth or Enterprise plan.
Prerequisites
See the full setup instructions baked into the connector (visible in the in-app store when you select the connector). The required environment variables for this connector are:
MIXPANEL_API_HOST, MIXPANEL_SERVICE_ACCOUNT_USERNAME, MIXPANEL_SERVICE_ACCOUNT_SECRET, MIXPANEL_PROJECT_ID
Step 1 — Get credentials
- With the Owner or Admin role, open Organization Settings → Service Accounts (
https://mixpanel.com/settings/org#serviceaccounts, for an EU projecthttps://eu.mixpanel.com/settings/org#serviceaccounts) and add a service account. A project Owner or Admin can also create one under Project Settings → Service Accounts for that project only. - Name it (for example AnythingMCP), give it access to the project and choose the role: Consumer is enough to read reports and profiles; creating, editing or deleting annotations and listing annotation tags need Analyst or higher. An expiry date is optional: once it passes, every call fails with 401.
- Copy the username (it looks like
anythingmcp.abc123.mp-service-account) intoMIXPANEL_SERVICE_ACCOUNT_USERNAMEand the secret intoMIXPANEL_SERVICE_ACCOUNT_SECRETstraight away: Mixpanel shows the secret only once. If you lose it, create a new service account. - Put the project id into
MIXPANEL_PROJECT_ID: Project Settings → Overview → Project ID, or the number after/project/in the project's address. - Set
MIXPANEL_API_HOSTto where the project stores its data (Project Settings → Overview → Data Residency):https://mixpanel.com(US, the default),https://eu.mixpanel.com(EU) orhttps://in.mixpanel.com(India). - Only if your project uses Data Views: set
MIXPANEL_WORKSPACE_IDto the id of the global data view (the number after/view/in the address). Otherwise leave it empty. - Install the connector and run
mixpanel_list_event_namesto see which events your project tracks.
Plan: reports use Mixpanel's Query API, which comes with the Growth and Enterprise plans. On the Free plan every report tool answers 402, and so does the connection check at install. The annotation tools work on every plan. A Growth trial is enough to try the reports.
Limits: Mixpanel allows 60 queries per hour and 5 at the same time per project, shared with every other integration that queries the project. Each report is one query, so ask for a breakdown in one go rather than day by day or user by user. Above the limit Mixpanel answers 429: wait instead of retrying straight away.
What it reads: event trends, segmentation by any property with sums and averages, saved funnels, retention, frequency, saved Insights reports, cohorts and user or group profiles. Only saved funnels and saved Insights reports can be run; a report is found by the number after report- in its address. Dates are whole days in the project's time zone (Project Settings → Overview → Timezone).
Confirm first: annotations are notes pinned to a date that every chart of the project shows to all its members. The AI confirms the text and date with you before mixpanel_create_annotation or mixpanel_update_annotation. mixpanel_delete_annotation is switched off at install.
Common errors: 401: wrong username or secret, or the service account expired. 403: the service account has no access to this project, or its role is too low (annotation changes need Analyst). 400: usually a misspelled parameter, a date not written YYYY-MM-DD or a filter with a syntax error. If a correct project id is refused, check MIXPANEL_API_HOST against the project's data residency. Empty results are not errors: there is no data for that event or range.
The connector does not send or import events or profiles, export raw events, run JQL or the per-user activity stream, edit Lexicon, create cohorts, or handle feature flags, experiments or project administration.
Step 2 — Install the adapter
curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/HelpCode-ai/anythingmcp/main/docker-compose.quickstart.yml -o docker-compose.yml
printf 'JWT_SECRET=%s\nENCRYPTION_KEY=%s\n' "$(openssl rand -hex 32)" "$(openssl rand -hex 32)" > .env
docker compose up -d
Step 3 — Add the connector in Microsoft Copilot
Your server URL: in AnythingMCP, open MCP Servers → the server this connector is on, and copy its URL (
https://cloud.anythingmcp.com/mcp/…). Use it wherever this guide showsYOUR_SERVER_ID.
Microsoft Copilot uses MCP servers through agents built in Copilot Studio: you add AnythingMCP to an agent as a tool, then publish the agent to Microsoft 365 Copilot and Teams. Copilot Studio connects from Microsoft's cloud over Streamable HTTP, which AnythingMCP supports.
- In Copilot Studio, open your agent (or create one), go to Tools and choose Add a tool → New tool → Model Context Protocol.
- Enter a Server name (for example
AnythingMCP), a Server description that says what the connector does, and the Server URLhttps://cloud.anythingmcp.com/mcp/YOUR_SERVER_ID. Copilot Studio uses the description to decide when to call the server. - Under authentication, choose API key, set Type to Header and the header name to
X-API-Key, then select Create. - In Add tool, choose Create a new connection, paste an MCP API key from AnythingMCP (MCP Servers → your server → API keys) and select Add to agent.
- Try it in the agent's Test pane: ask for something that needs the
Mixpaneltools. - Select Publish, then Channels → Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Teams, keep Make agent available in Microsoft Copilot selected and choose Add channel. See agent in Teams installs it for you; in Microsoft 365 Copilot, type @ and pick the agent.
Prefer per-user sign-in? Choose OAuth 2.0 → Dynamic discovery instead of an API key: each user then signs in to AnythingMCP the first time the agent calls it.
Self-hosting? Use your instance's public HTTPS address instead of https://cloud.anythingmcp.com. Copilot Studio connects from Microsoft's cloud, so localhost does not work.

FAQ
Which Copilot is this for? Microsoft 365 Copilot at work, through agents built in Copilot Studio. The Microsoft Copilot app for personal accounts has no option to add your own MCP server.
What do I need? A work account with access to Copilot Studio (a license or a trial) to build the agent. People who use it in Microsoft 365 Copilot or Teams need access to the agent: share it with them, or ask an admin to publish it to the organization. If your organization applies data policies to Power Platform connectors, they cover MCP servers too.
The agent doesn't call the tools. Check that the header name is exactly X-API-Key and that the key belongs to the same MCP server as the URL, and make the server description specific: Copilot Studio uses it to decide when to call the server. Publish the agent again after each change; in an open chat, type "start over" to get the new version.
