Summary
Connect SAP to Muse with ready MCP connectors: S/4HANA on-premise via HANA SQL or OData, S/4HANA Cloud, Business One, ECC and Concur. Pick your system, no code.
TL;DR: Muse reaches SAP through an MCP connector in AnythingMCP. Which connector depends on your SAP system: S/4HANA on-premise or Private Cloud reads the HANA database with SAP's own data dictionary (or the Gateway OData services), S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition uses SAP's released APIs, and Business One, ECC and Concur have their own routes. You install the connector, enter the credentials and add the MCP server to Muse as a custom connector. The same server works in Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot and Cursor.
Which SAP do you run?
Read the HANA database with SQL, guided by SAP's own data dictionary. Read-only, 10 tools, verified on S/4HANA 2025.
Connect S/4HANA via HANA →The Gateway's OData V2/V4 services become MCP tools, with SAP's authorization checks on every call.
OData to MCP →SAP's released OData APIs through a BTP communication arrangement: business partners, orders, billing, journal entries.
Connect S/4HANA Cloud →The Service Layer (OData v4): business partners, items, quotations, orders, deliveries, invoices. It can also create sales orders.
Connect Business One →Expense reports, approvals, attendees and itineraries, with OAuth 2.0.
Connect Concur →Not sure which one fits your S/4HANA? It comes down to what you can reach:
What people ask Muse about SAP
These are the questions the connectors are built for. Each one runs against your own system, with the rights of the user you configured.
| Question | Route |
|---|---|
| "What was our gross margin by month in 2025, per company code?" | HANA SQL |
| "Which customers have invoices more than 60 days overdue, and how much?" | HANA SQL, OData |
| "What is our DSO this quarter compared to last?" | HANA SQL |
| "Top 10 customers by net sales in the last 12 months." | HANA SQL, OData, S/4HANA Cloud |
| "Which purchase orders are still open and past their delivery date?" | OData, S/4HANA Cloud |
| "Show stock value by plant and material group." | HANA SQL |
The HANA guide shows three of them end to end: the tools Muse calls, the SAP tables it reads and the SQL it runs.
How it works
- Roles and tool access
- Read-only by default
- Audit log
S/4HANA on-premise, Private Cloud and ECC sit inside your network or SAP's private cloud landing zone, so AnythingMCP runs there too: one Docker Compose file on a host that reaches SAP. Only the MCP endpoint has to be published for Muse, never the SAP system. SAP Business One, S/4HANA Cloud and Concur are reachable over the internet, so they also work from AnythingMCP Cloud.
curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/HelpCode-ai/anythingmcp/main/docker-compose.quickstart.yml -o docker-compose.yml
printf 'JWT_SECRET=%s\nENCRYPTION_KEY=%s\n' "$(openssl rand -hex 32)" "$(openssl rand -hex 32)" > .env
docker compose up -d # then add the SAP host to SSRF_ALLOWED_HOSTS in .env
Then install the connector from Connectors → Marketplace, and add the MCP server to Muse: Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector, paste the URL shown under MCP Servers and sign in.
HANA SQL or OData?
Both routes reach S/4HANA on-premise and Private Cloud, and both can run side by side.
| HANA SQL | OData | |
|---|---|---|
| Reads | Any table or CDS view the database user may read | The Gateway services the SAP user may call |
| SAP authorizations | Not applied: the database grants are the boundary | Checked by SAP on every call |
| Good at | Totals over millions of rows, finance and cross-module analysis | Published APIs, business objects, SAP's own checks |
| Works with | S/4HANA on HANA | S/4HANA, ECC, BW |
| You need | A HANA database user and a licence that allows third-party SQL | A technical SAP user and active Gateway services |
Direct connection, Joule or a generic HANA server?
Three ways to put an AI model in front of SAP data.
| Direct connection (AnythingMCP) | SAP Joule with Claude | Generic HANA MCP servers | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Works on-premise and on Private Cloud today | Yes | Depends on your SAP product, edition and release | Yes, with database access |
| Delivered and licensed by | You (open source, AGPL-3.0) | SAP, on the SAP Business AI platform | The project you pick |
| Understands SAP tables | Yes: SAP's data dictionary and CDS views as tools | SAP-managed | No: raw table and column names |
| Read-only guardrails | Yes: single SELECT, 1,000 rows, timeout, denied tables | SAP-managed | Varies |
| Works in any MCP client | Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot, Cursor, Muse | Inside SAP's applications | Usually |
Joule is SAP's own assistant, and SAP and Anthropic have announced Claude inside it. The direct route is for teams that want Claude, ChatGPT or Copilot on their SAP data now, on systems they run themselves.
FAQ
How do I connect SAP to Muse? Install the AnythingMCP connector for your SAP system (S/4HANA via HANA SQL or OData, S/4HANA Cloud, Business One or Concur), enter the credentials and add the MCP server URL to Muse as a custom connector. For S/4HANA on-premise and Private Cloud, run AnythingMCP inside the network that reaches SAP.
How do I connect SAP Business One to Muse? Install the SAP Business One connector, enter the Service Layer URL, the company database, a user and its password, and add the MCP server to Muse. It has 12 tools for business partners, items, quotations, orders, deliveries and invoices, and it can create sales orders. Step by step: Connect SAP Business One to Meta Muse.
How do I connect SAP HANA to ChatGPT? The same way as to Meta Muse: install the SAP S/4HANA (HANA SQL) connector in a self-hosted AnythingMCP and add its MCP server to ChatGPT as a connector (developer mode, paid plans). The tools and their read-only limits are identical in both. See SAP to ChatGPT.
Is there an SAP MCP server? Yes. AnythingMCP ships SAP S/4HANA (HANA SQL, 10 tools), S/4HANA (OData), S/4HANA Cloud (15 tools), Business One (12 tools) and Concur (10 tools) as ready MCP connectors, open source and self-hosted. The sap-mcp-server repository lists them; sap-hana-mcp-server is the HANA one on its own.
Does it work with SAP ECC?
Yes, through ECC's SAP Gateway OData services: create an OData connector and import the services you want from $metadata. The HANA SQL route needs S/4HANA, because it reads S/4HANA's tables and CDS views.
Can Muse change data in SAP? Only where the connector allows it. SAP Business One can create sales orders and Concur can act on expense reports; the S/4HANA connectors only read. Give each MCP role the tools it needs and nothing more.
Where is Muse available? Meta currently offers Muse in the US and Canada, on the web, in the iOS and Android apps and in WhatsApp.
Does Meta review this connector? No. Meta doesn't review custom connectors. Muse sees only the tools you switched on for this MCP server in AnythingMCP, and you can disconnect it anytime under Settings → Connectors.
