Prerequisites

See the full setup instructions baked into the connector (visible in the in-app store when you select the connector). The required environment variables for this connector are:

SPORTMONKS_API_TOKEN

Step 1 — Get credentials

Setting up takes about 2 minutes. You need a SportMonks account with an API token. A free plan exists with a few leagues; paid plans add leagues and add-ons such as odds and predictions.

  1. Sign in at my.sportmonks.com and open API, then Tokens.
  2. Create a token and copy it.
  3. Paste only the token into SPORTMONKS_API_TOKEN, without spaces or an api_token= prefix. The connector sends it in the Authorization header.
  4. Install the connector and run sportmonks_list_my_leagues: it lists the leagues your plan covers, with their ids.

Your plan decides the data: what you can read depends on your SportMonks plan, above all on the leagues it includes. Data outside the plan does not raise an error: the answer is simply empty, with a note that your current subscription has no access to it. That is why the AI starts with your leagues and works with those. Odds and predictions also need the matching add-on.

What it reads: leagues and seasons; fixtures and results for one day or a date range; livescores and the matches in play right now; league tables, also live; top scorers, assists and cards; teams, squads and players with their statistics; head to head records; stadiums; pre-match odds from the bookmakers in your plan; and the probabilities and value bets of the SportMonks model.

Ids first: SportMonks works with ids. Some league ids: 8 Premier League, 9 Championship, 82 Bundesliga, 384 Serie A, 564 LaLiga, 301 Ligue 1, 2 Champions League. Tables, top scorers and squads need a season id, which the AI takes from the league's current season. Teams, players and stadiums are found by name with the search tools.

Includes and filters: a basic answer only carries ids. The AI adds related data with includes, for example participants;scores;state;events.type for a match with its teams, score, status and goals, and narrows lists with filters such as fixtureLeagues:9. It keeps includes to what you asked for, because they make answers much larger. Lists come in pages of up to 50.

Read-only: every tool only reads. Nothing changes in your SportMonks account, so there is nothing to confirm and no tool is switched off at install.

Odds and predictions are information: odds are decimal. Value bets are what the SportMonks model finds; they are information, not betting advice.

Times and ranges: times come in UTC unless the AI asks for a time zone, and it gives you kickoff times in yours. Date ranges cover at most 100 days.

Limits: SportMonks allows 3,000 calls per hour per entity (fixtures, teams, players and so on). Every answer shows how many calls are left and when the count resets; after a 429 the AI waits for the reset. It prefers one filtered list over many single calls.

Common errors: 401 means SportMonks refused the token: create a new one under API and paste it again. 403 means the token works but that resource is not in your plan. An empty answer with "No result(s) found" usually means the league or the add-on is outside your plan.

The connector covers football only; it does not place bets or change your SportMonks plan or tokens.

Step 2 — Install the adapter

curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/HelpCode-ai/anythingmcp/main/docker-compose.quickstart.yml -o docker-compose.yml
printf 'JWT_SECRET=%s\nENCRYPTION_KEY=%s\n' "$(openssl rand -hex 32)" "$(openssl rand -hex 32)" > .env
docker compose up -d

Step 3 — Add the connector in Gemini

Your server URL: in AnythingMCP, open MCP Servers → the server this connector is on, and copy its URL (https://cloud.anythingmcp.com/mcp/…). Use it wherever this guide shows YOUR_SERVER_ID.

Gemini CLI reads MCP servers from ~/.gemini/settings.json (on Windows %USERPROFILE%\.gemini\settings.json). Add:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "anythingmcp": {
      "httpUrl": "https://cloud.anythingmcp.com/mcp/YOUR_SERVER_ID",
      "headers": { "X-API-Key": "YOUR_MCP_API_KEY" }
    }
  }
}
  1. Create an MCP API key in AnythingMCP under MCP Servers → your server → API keys, and paste it in place of YOUR_MCP_API_KEY.
  2. Save the file and restart gemini.
  3. Run /mcp inside Gemini CLI (or gemini mcp list in your shell): anythingmcp should show as connected.
  4. Start prompting: Gemini CLI can now call the SportMonks Football tools.
