Prerequisites

See the full setup instructions baked into the connector (visible in the in-app store when you select the connector). The required environment variables for this connector are:

Step 1 — Get credentials

1. Create a free account at https://twelvedata.com and open API Keys in the dashboard.
2. Copy the key into TWELVE_DATA_API_KEY. It is sent in the Authorization: apikey header, so it never appears in a URL or a log.
3. Resolve a name into a symbol with twelve_data_search_symbols (for example Siemens to SIE on XETR), then call twelve_data_get_price, twelve_data_get_quote or twelve_data_get_time_series. For currencies use twelve_data_get_exchange_rate or twelve_data_convert_currency with a pair such as EUR/USD.

The free Basic plan allows 8 API credits per minute and 800 per day; most tools cost 1 credit per symbol. Above that the API answers 429 until the next minute. Free plans cover US equities, forex and crypto; many non-US exchanges and fundamentals need a paid plan and answer 403. twelve_data_get_api_usage shows your usage against the plan limits. Prices come back as strings, newest first unless order is asc.

Step 2 — Install the adapter

Step 3 — Add the connector in Gemini

Your server URL: in AnythingMCP, open MCP Servers → the server this connector is on, and copy its URL (https://cloud.anythingmcp.com/mcp/…). Use it wherever this guide shows YOUR_SERVER_ID.

Gemini CLI reads MCP servers from ~/.gemini/settings.json (on Windows %USERPROFILE%\.gemini\settings.json). Add:

1. Create an MCP API key in AnythingMCP under MCP Servers → your server → API keys, and paste it in place of YOUR_MCP_API_KEY.
2. Save the file and restart gemini.
3. Run /mcp inside Gemini CLI (or gemini mcp list in your shell) — anythingmcp should show as connected.
4. Start prompting — Gemini CLI can now call the Twelve Data tools.
