How to Connect Wise to Cursor via MCP

Let your AI work with your Wise account: see your personal and business profiles, check the balance in every currency you hold, get a live quote with exchange rate, fees and expected arrival, and look up past transfers by status, currency or date. With an API token from your Wise settings; a free sandbox is available.

Prerequisites

See the full setup instructions baked into the connector (visible in the in-app store when you select the connector). The required environment variables for this connector are:

Step 1 — Get credentials

1. Sign in at wise.com, open Settings, go to API tokens and create a new token.
2. Pick the token's permission: read only is enough for profiles, balances and transfers; wise_create_quote needs Full access.
3. Paste the token into WISE_API_TOKEN and install the connector. It talks to the live Wise API at https://api.wise.com.
4. Start with wise_list_profiles: it should list your personal profile and any business profiles with their ids, which every other tool needs.

Trying it in the sandbox: sign up for free at sandbox.transferwise.tech, create a token there under Settings → API tokens and put it into WISE_API_TOKEN. After installing, edit the connector details and set Base URL to https://api.sandbox.transferwise.tech. There is no separate environment variable for this. A sandbox token works only with the sandbox URL and a live token only with https://api.wise.com, so token and Base URL must always match.

Profiles: a Wise account has one personal profile and can have one or more business profiles. Balances, quotes and transfers always belong to one profile, so tell the AI whether you mean your personal profile or a business one; it takes the id from wise_list_profiles.

Quotes move no money: wise_create_quote only asks Wise for a price: the live exchange rate, the fees and the expected arrival, valid for 30 minutes. You name the amount on one side, either what you send (sourceAmount) or what should arrive (targetAmount), never both, and Wise works out the other. No transfer is created and nothing is paid; an unused quote simply expires. The AI sends a fresh idempotency key with every quote, so a retried request does not create a second one.

Balances and transfers: wise_get_balances returns one balance per currency you hold, with the available and the reserved amount and any linked bank details. It reads standard balances by default and savings balances (SAVINGS) when asked. wise_list_transfers filters by status (for example processing, outgoing_payment_sent or cancelled), source and target currency and creation date, and returns up to 100 transfers per call by default, so for a long history the AI asks period by period. Currencies are three-letter ISO 4217 codes such as EUR, GBP or USD.

Permissions and read-only setup: the token's permission limits what anyone holding it can do at Wise. If you do not need quotes, create a read-only token: profiles, balances and transfers keep working, and Wise refuses quotes from wise_create_quote. With a Full access token you can still switch off wise_create_quote on the connector page.

Common errors: 401 means the token is wrong or revoked, or comes from a different environment than the Base URL (a sandbox token against https://api.wise.com, or a live token against the sandbox). If the read tools work but wise_create_quote is refused, the token is read only: create a Full access token and replace WISE_API_TOKEN.

The connector does not create recipients or transfers, does not fund, send or cancel transfers, does not convert money between balances and does not read statements. Sending money stays in Wise itself.

Step 2 — Install the adapter

Step 3 — Add the connector in Cursor

Your server URL: in AnythingMCP, open MCP Servers → the server this connector is on, and copy its URL (https://cloud.anythingmcp.com/mcp/…). Use it wherever this guide shows YOUR_SERVER_ID.

1. Create an MCP API key in AnythingMCP under MCP Servers → your server → API keys, and paste it in place of YOUR_MCP_API_KEY.
2. Save the file and restart Cursor.
3. Open Cursor → Settings → MCP and check that anythingmcp is listed and connected.
4. Start chatting: the agent can now call the Wise tools.
