Worksection + Cursor

Worksection project management: projects, tasks and subtasks, comments, time and money costs, timers, files, tags, users and contacts, plus creating and updating tasks, comments and time entries. OAuth 2.0 as the connected user.

Prerequisites

See the full setup instructions baked into the connector (visible in the in-app store when you select the connector). The required environment variables for this connector are:

WORKSECTION_URL, WORKSECTION_CLIENT_ID, WORKSECTION_CLIENT_SECRET

Step 1 — Get credentials

The connector uses OAuth 2.0: every call is made as the Worksection user who authorized it, with that user's role. Worksection's administrative API key needs an MD5 signature on every request, which the connector does not compute, so OAuth is the way in.

  1. In Worksection click your avatar → Account settings → API and create an OAuth 2.0 application. Set the redirect URI to <your AnythingMCP URL>/api/mcp-oauth/callback (on AnythingMCP Cloud: https://cloud.anythingmcp.com/api/mcp-oauth/callback).
  2. Put the client id and client secret into WORKSECTION_CLIENT_ID and WORKSECTION_CLIENT_SECRET, and your account address (for example https://youraccount.worksection.com) into WORKSECTION_URL.
  3. On the connector page click Authorize with Provider and sign in. The connector asks for read and write access to projects, tasks, comments, costs and tags, and read access to files, users and contacts.
  4. Start with worksection_get_me, then worksection_list_projects and worksection_list_tasks (add filter=active for open tasks).

Things to know:

  • Access tokens last 24 hours and are renewed automatically. The refresh token lasts one month, so a connector unused for longer has to be authorized again.
  • The limit is 1 request per second per account and 10,000 records per answer. Prefer worksection_list_tasks per project or worksection_search_tasks over worksection_list_all_tasks.
  • Errors often come back with HTTP 200 and "status": "error", so read status in the answer.
  • Dates are DD.MM.YYYY and users are addressed by e-mail. Write tools act as the connected user and comments notify the task's subscribers. worksection_update_task cannot change a description, and its tags replace all current tags.

Step 2 — Install the adapter

curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/HelpCode-ai/anythingmcp/main/docker-compose.quickstart.yml -o docker-compose.yml
printf 'JWT_SECRET=%s\nENCRYPTION_KEY=%s\n' "$(openssl rand -hex 32)" "$(openssl rand -hex 32)" > .env
docker compose up -d

Step 3 — Add the connector in Cursor

Your server URL: in AnythingMCP, open MCP Servers → the server this connector is on, and copy its URL (https://cloud.anythingmcp.com/mcp/…). Use it wherever this guide shows YOUR_SERVER_ID.

Cursor reads MCP servers from ~/.cursor/mcp.json. Add this entry:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "anythingmcp": {
      "url": "https://cloud.anythingmcp.com/mcp/YOUR_SERVER_ID",
      "headers": { "X-API-Key": "YOUR_MCP_API_KEY" }
    }
  }
}
  1. Create an MCP API key in AnythingMCP under MCP Servers → your server → API keys, and paste it in place of YOUR_MCP_API_KEY.
  2. Save the file and restart Cursor.
  3. Open Cursor → Settings → MCP and check that anythingmcp is listed and connected.
  4. Start chatting — the agent can now call the Worksection tools.
