Egnyte
Let your AI work with your Egnyte files: browse folders, read file details, versions and small text files, search names and contents, list and create share links after you confirm, read folder permissions and recent file activity. Internal API key from your Egnyte admin.
Setup
You need an Egnyte plan with API access (not a trial, Team or legacy Office plan) and an Egnyte admin to create the API key. Egnyte reviews every new key before it works, which can take a few days, so start with step 1 early.
- As an Egnyte admin, open Settings → Apps & Integrations and click the Create API Key tile (or register at developers.egnyte.com). Create a key of type Internal Application for your own company and leave the redirect URI empty.
- Copy the Key into
EGNYTE_CLIENT_IDand the Secret intoEGNYTE_CLIENT_SECRET. - Enter your Egnyte domain in
EGNYTE_DOMAIN: the first part of your address, soacmeforhttps://acme.egnyte.com. - Enter the username and password of the Egnyte user the connector acts as in
EGNYTE_USERNAMEandEGNYTE_PASSWORD. The password is only sent to your Egnyte domain to get an access token. - Wait until the key shows as Active, install the connector and run
egnyte_get_user_info: it shows which user the AI works as.
Use a dedicated user: the AI sees exactly what this user sees in Egnyte, nothing more. The safest choice is a user that only has the folders the AI needs. If your company signs in to Egnyte only through single sign-on, pick a user that also has an Egnyte password. AnythingMCP gets a token with these credentials and requests a new one when it expires after 30 days.
What it reads: company folders under /Shared and private folders under /Private; file and folder details such as size, last change, uploader and lock state; the version history of a file; search by file name, content or comments; the beginning of text files such as txt, csv, md, json, xml or html (up to about 100 KB, earlier versions too); share links; who has which permission on a folder, and the effective permission of one person after groups and inheritance; and the domain's recent file activity (created, deleted, moved, copied, permission changes), which Egnyte keeps for 30 days.
PDFs and Office files: the connector reads plain text only. For a PDF, Word or Excel file the AI can find it, describe it and give you a share link, but it does not read the document itself.
Share links ask first: before egnyte_create_link creates a link, the AI shows you the file or folder, who will be able to open it (anyone with the link, a password, signed-in users of your Egnyte, or only named recipients) and the expiry, and waits for your yes. If you ask it to e-mail the link, it names the recipients too.
Switched off at install: egnyte_delete_item. An administrator turns it on deliberately; deleted items then go to Egnyte's trash, and the AI deletes only after you confirm the path. No other tool changes or deletes files.
Paths: full paths starting with /Shared or /Private, case-sensitive. Search terms need 3 to 100 characters, and results come 20 at a time.
Rate limits: depending on your plan, 2 requests a second and 1,000 to 4,000 a day per key. Over the limit Egnyte answers 403 or 429 (Developer Over Rate); wait and try again later.
Common errors: a refused sign-in means a wrong username, password, key or secret, or a key that is still waiting for approval. 401 Invalid Access Token: the token was revoked, for example after a password change. 403: no permission on that path, or the limit is used up. 404: the path does not exist; check the case of every name.
The connector does not upload or change files, create or move folders, lock files, write comments or metadata, manage users and groups, or run Egnyte workflows and Egnyte AI.
