WordPress as an AI-Native Publishing Platform

The WordPress connector exposes the WordPress core REST API to AI agents via MCP — posts, pages, taxonomies, media, users, comments, search, site health, settings, and SEO meta (Yoast / Rank Math).

What makes it different from a thin REST wrapper: skill tools and enum reference cards. Workflows like SEO refresh, content refresh, scheduled publishing, internal linking and media optimisation are exposed as on-demand wordpress_skill_* tools that return step-by-step playbooks. Enum values (post status, comment status, user role, site-health test slugs, SEO meta keys) live in wordpress_list_*_options tools — your agent fetches them only when needed instead of carrying them in the system prompt.

Quick Setup

curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/HelpCode-ai/anythingmcp/main/docker-compose.quickstart.yml -o docker-compose.yml
printf 'JWT_SECRET=%s\nENCRYPTION_KEY=%s\n' "$(openssl rand -hex 32)" "$(openssl rand -hex 32)" > .env
docker compose up -d

Open http://localhost:3000/connectors/store, import the WordPress adapter, and supply:

  • WORDPRESS_URL — site root, e.g. https://example.com (HTTPS required)
  • WORDPRESS_USERNAME — login of an Editor or Administrator account
  • WORDPRESS_APP_PASSWORD — generate in /wp-admin/profile.php → Application Passwords (built-in since WP 5.6)

  • Content refresh — "List the 20 stalest posts and refresh the top 3 with current information."
  • Scheduled publishing — "Schedule a post titled 'Q3 product update' for next Monday at 9 AM with featured image from media id 412."
  • Internal linking — "Read post 287 and add 3 internal links to relevant evergreen content."
  • Media optimisation — "Find all images without alt text in the media library and propose accessible descriptions."

Permissions

Posts CRUD requires Editor. Users CRUD, site health, and settings require Administrator. Application Passwords can be revoked from /wp-admin/profile.php at any time.
