Setting up BlockCypher
From the connector definition itself: where to find the credentials, what they need to be allowed to do, and which API this adapter talks to.
BlockCypher
This connector reads public blockchain data from the BlockCypher API v1 (https://api.blockcypher.com/v1): chain state and fee estimates, blocks, address balances and histories, transactions and unconfirmed transactions on Bitcoin, Litecoin, Dogecoin, Dash and Ethereum. All tools are read-only; nothing is sent, signed or created.
Setup
- Nothing is required: BlockCypher answers read-only GET calls without a token.
- Optional
BLOCKCYPHER_TOKEN: sign up at https://accounts.blockcypher.com, copy the token from the dashboard. It is needed forblockcypher_get_transaction_confidence, for wallet names, and to raise limits on a paid plan. It is sent as thetokenquery parameter.
Networks: every tool takes network as coin/chain: btc/main, ltc/main, doge/main, dash/main, eth/main, or the test chains btc/test3, bcy/test, beth/test. Ethereum addresses are written without 0x.
Amounts: always in the smallest unit. Bitcoin, Litecoin, Dogecoin and Dash have 10^8 units per coin (100,000,000 satoshi = 1 BTC); Ethereum has 10^18 wei per ether. Convert before quoting an amount to the user. Times are ISO 8601 in UTC.
Workflow
- Where is the chain now:
blockcypher_get_chain(height, latest block, fee estimates per kB). - How much is on an address:
blockcypher_get_address_balance(final_balanceincludes unconfirmed transactions, balanceonly confirmed ones). - What happened on an address:
blockcypher_get_addressfor light references or UTXOs (unspent_only),blockcypher_get_address_fullfor complete transactions. Both return newest first; whilehasMoreis true, call again withbefore= the lowestblock_heightyou received. To fetch only what is new since a known height, useafter. - One transaction:
blockcypher_get_transaction; confirmations = chain height - block height + 1. For a still unconfirmed one,blockcypher_get_transaction_confidence(token required). - Blocks:
blockcypher_get_blockby hash or height. Mempool:blockcypher_list_unconfirmed_transactions.
Limits: the free tier allows 3 requests per second and 100 requests per hour, with or without a token (confidence lookups 10 per hour); the hourly window resets at the top of the hour UTC. blockcypher_get_chain returns the remaining hourly calls in _headers.x-ratelimit-remaining. Prefer the balance call over the full address call, and keep limit small.
Errors: 429 means the hourly or per-second limit is used up; wait until the next full hour or add a paid token. 404 means an unknown address, hash or block on that network (check that the address belongs to the chosen coin). 401 on the confidence call means the token is missing or wrong.
Limitations: no sending, signing, wallet management, webhooks or asset (OAP) calls. Ethereum token (ERC-20) balances are not covered.
