Setting up Deutsche Bundesbank Statistics

From the connector definition itself: where to find the credentials, what they need to be allowed to do, and which API this adapter talks to.

Read-only access to the Deutsche Bundesbank time series database through its SDMX REST web service (api.statistiken.bundesbank.de): ECB euro reference exchange rates, yields of German federal securities, and any other Bundesbank series by flow and key. No account or API key is needed.

Which tool

  • bundesbank_get_exchange_rates: daily ECB euro reference rate for one currency (series BBEX3 D.<CUR>.EUR.BB.AC.000). The value is units of foreign currency per 1 EUR: 1.1269 for USD means 1 EUR = 1.1269 USD; take 1/value for EUR per unit of foreign currency. The ECB sets these rates at about 14:15 CET on business days.
  • bundesbank_get_bund_yields: daily yield, in percent, derived from the term structure for German federal securities with a residual maturity of 1, 2, 5, 10 or 30 years (BBSIS D.I.ZAR.ZI.EUR.S1311.B.A604.R10XX.R.A.A._Z._Z.A for 10 years). 3.49 means 3.49 %.
  • bundesbank_get_timeseries: any other series, e.g. flow BBDP1 with key M.DE.N.VPI.C.A00000.I20.A (German consumer price index, 2020 = 100, monthly). Copy keys from the series pages of the Bundesbank time series database. Leave a key part empty as a wildcard or join codes with +: D.USD+GBP.EUR.BB.AC.000 returns two series, D..EUR.BB.AC.000 every reference rate.

Periods must match the frequency, which is the first part of the key: daily D takes 2026-10-01, monthly M takes 2026-10, quarterly Q takes 2026-Q3, annual A takes 2026. A mismatch returns HTTP 400 "Period restriction ... does not match frequency". The two dedicated tools are daily, so they need full dates. Always pass startPeriod: without it the whole history comes back (EUR/USD since 1999, about 10,000 observations).

Reading SDMX-JSON: values are under data.dataSets[0].series["0:0:..."].observations. Each observation key is an index into data.structure.dimensions.observation[0].values, which holds the dates; the first element of each observation is the value as a string (["1.1269", 5, 0]), the other numbers are attribute indexes. Weekends and holidays appear with a null value. With several series, each series key is a colon-separated list of indexes into data.structure.dimensions.series[n].values, which are sorted alphabetically, not in request order. The tools request detail=dataonly, so titles and units are not included.

Errors: an unknown flow or key, or a range with no data at all, returns HTTP 404 with a German message. A range that lies entirely in the future can return 200 with an empty series entry.
