Guides for GoDaddy

Step-by-step setup for the most popular AI clients.

Setting up GoDaddy

From the connector definition itself: where to find the credentials, what they need to be allowed to do, and which API this adapter talks to.

GoDaddy

This connector manages the domains of one GoDaddy account through the GoDaddy Domains API v1 (https://api.godaddy.com/v1/domains): the list of domains with status, expiry, transfer lock and auto-renew, availability checks with prices, name suggestions, DNS records on GoDaddy's nameservers, the nameservers themselves, WHOIS contacts, and renewal. Registering (buying) new domains, transfers, forwarding and cancelling a domain are not part of this connector; do those at godaddy.com.

Setup (3 minutes)

  1. Sign in at https://developer.godaddy.com/personal-access-token with the GoDaddy account that owns the domains and select Generate Token.
  2. Give it a name, an expiry (up to 1 year) and the scopes it needs: domains.domain:read for the read tools; add domains.dns:update to change DNS records, domains.domain:update for lock, auto-renew and renewal, domains.nameserver:update for nameservers and domains.contact:update for contacts. The Domains & DNS bundle selects all of them.
  3. Copy the token (it is shown once) into GODADDY_PAT and run godaddy_list_domains to check it.

GoDaddy's older key and secret (Authorization: sso-key KEY:SECRET, from developer.godaddy.com/keys) still works on these v1 endpoints but GoDaddy is retiring it for the Domains API during 2026, so this connector uses the Personal Access Token.

Who may use the API: GoDaddy's documentation says domain management (list, DNS, contacts, renewals, lock) needs an account that holds at least one domain or a plan that grants management access, and that anything that costs money (renewal) needs a payment method on file or a funded Good as Gold balance. From 2024 GoDaddy limited the Management and DNS APIs to accounts with 10 or more domains or a Discount Domain Club plan (and the Availability API to 50 or more domains); the current documentation no longer states those thresholds, but an account refused with 403 and a code such as ACCESS_DENIED is still blocked by an eligibility rule, not by a wrong token.

Workflow

  • Portfolio: godaddy_list_domains (filter by statuses or status_groups, add includes=contacts, nameServers for more detail), then godaddy_get_domain for one domain: status, expires, renewAuto, locked, privacy, nameServers and the four contacts. The transfer authorization code is removed from the answer; get it in the GoDaddy account when you really move a domain.
  • Finding a name: godaddy_check_availability for one domain, godaddy_check_availability_bulk for up to 500 at once, godaddy_suggest_domains for alternatives from keywords, godaddy_list_tlds for the extensions GoDaddy sells. These only read; buy at godaddy.com.
  • DNS: godaddy_list_dns_records shows the whole zone, godaddy_get_dns_records the records of one type and name. godaddy_add_dns_records appends records and keeps the existing ones (calling it twice adds duplicates). godaddy_replace_dns_records overwrites every record of one type and name with the list you give (the usual way to change an A record or a TXT value). godaddy_delete_dns_records removes every record of one type and name. Always read the records first and tell the user what will change.
  • Settings: godaddy_update_domain sets the transfer lock, auto-renew or the nameservers. Changing the nameservers moves DNS away from GoDaddy: after that the DNS tools no longer manage the domain.
  • Contacts: godaddy_update_contacts replaces the registrant (required) and optionally the admin, billing and tech contacts; read them first with godaddy_get_domain and send complete contacts. A new registrant name, organization or email can start a 60-day transfer lock (ICANN change of registrant) and a confirmation email. godaddy_resend_registrant_verification sends the ICANN registrant email verification again.
  • Renewal: godaddy_renew_domain renews a domain for period years and charges the account's payment method. It is installed switched off; turn it on only if the agent should be able to spend money, and always confirm the domain, the years and the price with the user first.

Reading the answers

  • Prices from the availability tools are in micro units of currency: price 12990000 with currency USD is 12.99 USD. Availability prices are indicative; definitive: false means the answer came from a cache, use check_type=FULL for a live registry check.
  • Dates (expires, createdAt, renewDeadline) are ISO 8601 in UTC.
  • DNS record name is relative to the domain: @ is the domain itself, www is www.example.com. ttl is in seconds (600 to 86400 on GoDaddy DNS). priority is for MX and SRV, service, protocol, port and weight for SRV.
  • Writes answer 200 or 204 with no body on success.

Paging: godaddy_list_domains returns at most limit domains (up to 1000); for the next page pass the last domain of the page as marker. godaddy_list_dns_records and godaddy_get_dns_records take offset and limit.

Limits: the API allows about 600 requests per credential in a window of roughly 23 minutes (RateLimit-* headers; GoDaddy may change it). On 429 wait for the reset before trying again.

Errors: 401 a wrong, revoked or expired token; 403 a missing scope or an account that does not meet GoDaddy's eligibility rules (read code in the body); 404 a domain that is not in this account or a type and name with no records; 409 or 422 a value GoDaddy refuses (for example a TTL under 600 or an invalid IP address), with the field in fields.
