Google Sheets
Let your AI work with Google Sheets: read any range or several at once, see a spreadsheet's tabs and sizes, append rows to a table, write and update cells and formulas, create spreadsheets and add or rename tabs. Personal Google accounts and Google Workspace.

Guides for Google
Step-by-step setup for the most popular AI clients.
Setting up Google Sheets
From the connector definition itself: where to find the credentials, what they need to be allowed to do, and which API this adapter talks to.
Google Sheets
This connector reads and writes Google Sheets through the Google Sheets API v4 (https://sheets.googleapis.com/v4): spreadsheet structure, cell values of any range, appending rows, writing and clearing ranges, creating spreadsheets and adding or renaming sheets. It works with personal Google accounts and Google Workspace, on every spreadsheet the authorizing Google account can open.
Setup (one-time, about 10 minutes)
- Open https://console.cloud.google.com, pick or create a project, then APIs & Services → Library → enable Google Sheets API.
- APIs & Services → OAuth consent screen: choose Internal if you are on Google Workspace (simplest), otherwise External. For External, set the publishing status to In production: while an app is in Testing, Google revokes its refresh tokens after 7 days and the connector stops working every week. For your own use, the "unverified app" warning can be clicked through.
- APIs & Services → Credentials → Create credentials → OAuth client ID → application type Web application → add the authorized redirect URI
<your AnythingMCP URL>/api/mcp-oauth/callback(on AnythingMCP Cloud:https://cloud.anythingmcp.com/api/mcp-oauth/callback). - Paste the client ID and secret into
GOOGLE_CLIENT_IDandGOOGLE_CLIENT_SECRETand install the connector. - On the connector page, click Authorize with Provider and sign in with the Google account whose spreadsheets the AI should use. The refresh token is stored encrypted and access tokens are renewed automatically.
One Google client for all Google connectors: the same Cloud project and OAuth client can serve every Google connector (Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive, Google Sheets, Google Docs, Google Tasks, Search Console, Analytics, Ads). Enable each API in that project, reuse the same GOOGLE_CLIENT_ID and GOOGLE_CLIENT_SECRET, and authorize each connector once: each one asks only for its own scopes.
Scope: the connector asks for https://www.googleapis.com/auth/spreadsheets (read and write every spreadsheet the user can open). It does not include Google Drive, so it cannot list or search spreadsheets, move or share them. For a read-only setup, change the scope to https://www.googleapis.com/auth/spreadsheets.readonly in the connector's OAuth settings, authorize again, and disable gsheets_append_rows, gsheets_update_range, gsheets_batch_update_values, gsheets_create_spreadsheet, gsheets_add_sheet and gsheets_rename_sheet.
Switched off at install: gsheets_clear_range and gsheets_batch_update (it can delete sheets, rows and columns). Turn them on per tool if the AI needs them.
Finding a spreadsheet: the id is the long string in the link, https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/<id>/edit. To find one by name, use the Google Drive connector's gdrive_search_files with mimeType = 'application/vnd.google-apps.spreadsheet' and name contains '...', or ask the user for the link. Then call gsheets_get_spreadsheet to learn the sheet names and numeric sheetIds.
Ranges (A1 notation): Sheet1!A1:D20; a sheet name with spaces or symbols in single quotes, 'Sales 2026'!A:C; whole columns Sheet1!A:C; open-ended Sheet1!A2:E (from row 2 down); a whole sheet Sheet1; without a sheet name the first sheet is used. Named ranges work too.
Reading: gsheets_read_range and gsheets_batch_read return values as a list of rows. Trailing empty rows and cells are omitted, so rows may have different lengths. FORMATTED_VALUE (default) returns what the UI shows ("1.234,50 €"); UNFORMATTED_VALUE returns numbers, with dates as serial numbers (days since 30 December 1899) unless date_time_render_option is FORMATTED_STRING; FORMULA returns the formulas. There is no pagination: read large sheets in blocks, e.g. Data!A1:Z1000, then Data!A1001:Z2000, keeping each answer small.
Writing
valuesis a list of rows:[["Date", "Amount"], ["2026-10-09", 120.5]]. WithUSER_ENTERED(default) values are parsed as if typed: numbers, dates and formulas such as=SUM(B2:B20)work, using the spreadsheet's locale.RAWstores text exactly as given.gsheets_append_rowsfinds the table inrangeand adds the rows after its last row, inserting new rows so nothing below is overwritten. Use the table's columns (Sheet1!A:E) as range.gsheets_update_rangeandgsheets_batch_update_valuesoverwrite the target cells. In a row, nullleaves a cell unchanged and""empties it.gsheets_create_spreadsheetcreates the file in the root of My Drive;gsheets_add_sheetadds tabs andgsheets_rename_sheetrenames one by its numericsheetId.gsheets_batch_update(switched off) accepts raw Sheets API requests for formatting, sorting, inserting or deleting rows and columns; indexes there are 0-based and end indexes exclusive.
Limits and quotas: a spreadsheet holds up to 10 million cells. Google allows 300 read and 300 write requests per minute per project, and 60 of each per minute per user. Over the limit it answers 429 RESOURCE_EXHAUSTED: wait a minute and retry, and prefer one batch call over many small ones. Keep a single request under about 2 MB.
Common errors
- 401: the authorization expired or was revoked (always after 7 days while the consent screen is in Testing). Click Authorize with Provider again.
- 403
PERMISSION_DENIED: the account cannot open (or cannot edit) that spreadsheet, or the scope is read-only. 403 "Sheets API has not been used in project": enable the Google Sheets API in the Cloud project. - 404: the spreadsheet id is wrong or the file was deleted.
- 400
Unable to parse range: the sheet name is misspelled or needs single quotes. 400 on add or rename: a sheet with that name already exists.
Out of scope here: finding, sharing, moving or deleting spreadsheet files (use the Google Drive connector), and Apps Script.
