Guides for NINA

Step-by-step setup for the most popular AI clients.

Setting up NINA Emergency Warnings

From the connector definition itself: where to find the credentials, what they need to be allowed to do, and which API this adapter talks to.

NINA is the warning app of the German Federal Office of Civil Protection (BBK). This connector reads the public data behind it: civil-protection warnings (MoWaS), KATWARN, BIWAPP, DWD weather, flood (LHP) and police warnings.

Setup: none. The API at warnung.bund.de/api31 is public and needs no key.

Which tool first

  1. For a place, call nina_get_warnings_by_region with the 12-digit regional key (ARS) of its district: the first 5 digits followed by 7 zeros, e.g. 110000000000 Berlin, 091620000000 Munich, 064140000000 Wiesbaden, 082150000000 Landkreis Karlsruhe. A full municipality key such as 082150029029 returns 404 and a 5-digit key returns 400. Each entry names its source in payload.data.provider and has headline, severity and msgType.
  2. For a nationwide overview, call nina_get_active_warnings once per source. Items carry id, startDate, severity, type and i18nTitle but no areas: the German title (i18nTitle.de) names the place, the other languages only the event type.
  3. Pass an id (e.g. mow.DE-HE-WI-W097-20260926-000) to nina_get_warning_detail for the full message: info[].description, info[].instruction (what people should do), area[].areaDesc, web and contact. Texts contain HTML line breaks (<br/>).

Reading the data: an empty list [] means no current warning, the usual state for most sources. type / msgType is Alert, Update or Cancel; a Cancel is an all-clear (Entwarnung) that stays listed for a while. severity runs Minor, Moderate, Severe, Extreme. Times are ISO 8601 with the German offset, e.g. 2026-09-26T14:54:01+02:00.

COVID rules are archived: nina_get_covid_rules still answers, but the data has not been updated since June 2023. Do not present it as current rules.

For immediate danger, tell the user to follow local authorities and call 112.

Cloud reachability: warnung.bund.de is public and reachable from AnythingMCP Cloud and self-hosted installs.
