Guides for Pinterest

Step-by-step setup for the most popular AI clients.

Setting up Pinterest

From the connector definition itself: where to find the credentials, what they need to be allowed to do, and which API this adapter talks to.

This connector wraps the Pinterest API v5 (api.pinterest.com/v5). You authorize it once, in AnythingMCP; access tokens are then renewed automatically.

Setup:

  1. Create an app at https://developers.pinterest.com/apps/.
  2. Under the app's Redirect URIs, add https://cloud.anythingmcp.com/api/mcp-oauth/callback on AnythingMCP Cloud, or <your AnythingMCP server URL>/api/mcp-oauth/callback when you host AnythingMCP yourself. Pinterest requires an exact match.
  3. Enter the app's App ID as PINTEREST_CLIENT_ID and its App secret key as PINTEREST_CLIENT_SECRET, leave PINTEREST_REFRESH_TOKEN empty, and install.
  4. Open the connector and click Authorize with Provider. Sign in to Pinterest, approve, and you land back on the connector page with the tools ready.

Scopes: boards:read,boards:write,pins:read,pins:write,user_accounts:read, which covers every tool here. Change them in the connector's OAuth settings and authorize again if you need others.

Already have a refresh token? You can paste it into PINTEREST_REFRESH_TOKEN instead of step 4, if you obtained it yourself for the same app (authorization code from https://www.pinterest.com/oauth/, exchanged at https://api.pinterest.com/v5/oauth/token). Connectors set up that way keep working as they are.

Authentication: the token endpoint is called with HTTP Basic client authentication (client_id:client_secret), as Pinterest requires. Every API call sends Authorization: Bearer <access token>. Access tokens last 30 days; the refresh token is renewed with them, and whatever new refresh token Pinterest returns is stored. If a call says the access token could not be renewed, authorize again from the connector page.

Sandbox available: change baseUrl to api-sandbox.pinterest.com/v5 for testing.

Pin formats: standard pins point at an external image URL (media_source: {source_type:'image_url', url:'...'}) or use the upload endpoint for direct upload (multipart, out of scope here). Video pins require a separate upload flow.

Pagination: bookmark (cursor) + page_size (default 25, max 100).

Rate limits: 1000 req / hour per token (varies by endpoint). 429 with Retry-After.

Out of scope here: video upload multipart, catalog feeds, ad campaign creation, trends, conversion API.
