Step-by-step setup for the most popular AI clients.
Setting up Wassenger
From the connector definition itself: where to find the credentials, what they need to be allowed to do, and which API this adapter talks to.
Wassenger connects WhatsApp numbers to an API. A number linked by QR code (connector web) runs a WhatsApp Web session, an unofficial channel that WhatsApp may restrict for bulk or unsolicited sending. Numbers on the cloud connector use Meta's official Business API.
Getting credentials: in the Wassenger Web Console open Developers, then API Keys, and copy or create a key into WASSENGER_API_TOKEN. Chat agents and supervisors cannot use the API, so use an owner or admin key. Link your WhatsApp number in the console first (scan the QR code); a number that is not online cannot send.
Workflow: call wassenger_list_numbers first. It returns each number's id (24 hex characters), used as device_id by the chat, contact and health tools, and as device when sending from a specific number. wassenger_get_number_health explains why a number is not sending (authorize means scan the QR code again).
Sending: wassenger_send_message sends a real WhatsApp message. Confirm the recipient and the exact text with the user before calling it, and do not retry after it returns an id. Messages are queued; check them later with wassenger_get_message or wassenger_search_sent_messages, and wassenger_get_message_ack_info for read receipts.
Formats: phone numbers are E.164 with the plus sign, e.g. +447911123456. Chat and contact IDs are WhatsApp IDs such as [email protected] (person) or [email protected] (group).
Plans and limits: Gateway plans are send-only; reading chat history needs a Platform plan, and those tools answer 403 "Platform plan upgrade required" otherwise. Delivery speed per minute and the queue size depend on the plan. wassenger_check_number uses the monthly number-check quota (2,000 to 50,000 by plan); keep it under 30 checks per minute. The API returns x-ratelimit-limit, x-ratelimit-remaining and x-ratelimit-reset headers, exposed on the list tools; on 429 wait until the reset time.
Pagination: list tools take page, starting at 0, and size. Ask for the next page until fewer than size items come back.
Cloud reachability: api.wassenger.com is a public HTTPS API, reachable from AnythingMCP Cloud.
