Guides for ZoomInfo

Step-by-step setup for the most popular AI clients.

Setting up ZoomInfo

From the connector definition itself: where to find the credentials, what they need to be allowed to do, and which API this adapter talks to.

ZoomInfo

This connector calls the ZoomInfo GTM API (https://api.zoominfo.com/gtm, Data API v1) with an app of your own, signed in with the OAuth 2.0 client credentials flow. It searches contacts and companies, looks up valid filter values, reads your usage and enriches selected records. It never changes data in ZoomInfo.

Personal data: B2B use only. Contact records describe real people: names, job titles, employers, business emails and direct or mobile phone numbers. Use them only for a legitimate business purpose the user can justify (for example B2B sales or recruiting under legitimate interest), in line with the GDPR, CAN-SPAM and similar laws, and with ZoomInfo's terms. Keep only what is needed, respect the Do Not Call flags (directPhoneDoNotCall, mobilePhoneDoNotCall) and the withinEu flag, and never pull contact data in bulk or build a mass mailing list. Do not look up private individuals.

Credits: search first, enrich only what the user picked.

  • Free: zoominfo_search_contacts, zoominfo_search_companies, zoominfo_lookup_values, zoominfo_list_search_fields, zoominfo_list_enrich_fields, zoominfo_get_usage. They still count against the request rate limits.
  • Costs credits: zoominfo_enrich_contacts and zoominfo_enrich_companies spend 1 bulk data credit for every record returned that is not already under management in your account (a record stays under management, and free to enrich again, for 12 months after its first enrichment). No match, no charge. Before an enrichment, show the user the records you found, say how many credits it can cost at most (one per record), and wait for their yes. Prefer a few records over a whole result page.

Setup (about 10 minutes, needs ZoomInfo API access) API access is part of a GTM.ai plan or of an Enterprise contract with API access; ZoomInfo has no free API tier.

  1. Create an app: on GTM.ai self-serve, open the Developer tab and choose Create. On an Enterprise contract, sign in to the ZoomInfo Developer Portal and choose Create App; if you cannot open it, ask your ZoomInfo admin for Developer Portal access.
  2. Under authentication choose Client Credentials Flow (server to server) and pick the integration user the calls run as. An app made for the Authorization Code (PKCE) flow does not accept this grant and answers unauthorized_client.
  3. Select the scopes Contact (api:data:contact), Company (api:data:company) and Lookup (api:data:lookup), then Create App.
  4. Copy the Client ID and Client Secret into ZOOMINFO_CLIENT_ID and ZOOMINFO_CLIENT_SECRET. The connector exchanges them for a short-lived token at https://api.zoominfo.com/gtm/oauth/v1/token (HTTP Basic) and renews it by itself. The secret is only sent to ZoomInfo.

Workflow

  1. Turn the user's words into ZoomInfo values with zoominfo_lookup_values (industries, management-levels, departments, job-functions, metro-regions, countries, employee-count, revenue-ranges and more). Search rejects free text that is not a known value.
  2. Search with zoominfo_search_contacts or zoominfo_search_companies. Results carry ids, names, titles and has... hints (hasEmail, hasDirectPhone, hasMobilePhone), never the email or phone itself. zoominfo_list_search_fields lists every filter a search accepts.
  3. After the user confirms, enrich the chosen ids with zoominfo_enrich_contacts (up to 25) or zoominfo_enrich_companies (up to 25). outputFields decides what comes back; zoominfo_list_enrich_fields with field_type output shows every field and whether your plan includes it.
  4. zoominfo_get_usage shows the request, record and credit limits of your account and what is left.

Paging: searches take page (from 1, at most 100 pages) and page_size (1 to 100). meta.totalResults is the number of records, meta.page.total the number of pages.

Rate limits: per tenant, 5 to 35 requests a second plus hourly and daily caps depending on the package. On a 429 wait for Retry-After seconds; an exhausted hourly window can mean several minutes.

Common errors (errors[].code in the body)

  • 400 unauthorized_client at sign-in: the client ID is unknown or the app was not created for the client credentials flow.
  • 401 ZI0001: the token is missing, invalid or expired. The connector renews it; if it persists, check the client secret.
  • 403 ZI0002: the app lacks the scope for this endpoint. Add it to the app in the Developer Portal.
  • 403 ZI0003: your contract does not include this endpoint or API access at all.
  • 400 PFAPI0001 or PFAPI0009: an output field your plan does not include, or a misspelled one. Check zoominfo_list_enrich_fields.
  • 400 PFAPI0006: a filter value ZoomInfo does not know. Look it up with zoominfo_lookup_values and retry with the returned id.
  • 400 PFAPI0011: the user's credit limit is reached. Ask the ZoomInfo admin.
  • 429 ZI0004: rate limit. Wait and retry once.

Out of scope here: intent, scoops and news (separate ZoomInfo packages), org charts, corporate hierarchy, technologies, lookalikes and recommendations, audiences, webhooks, and the legacy Enterprise API (/authenticate with username and password or private key), which ZoomInfo is retiring.
