Getting credentials — BuchhaltungsButler needs three values, not one.
- In the web app open Einstellungen → API and create an API client. You receive an API client id and an API client secret: these are the HTTP Basic username and password.
- On the same page copy the API key for the client (Mandant) you want to reach. This is a separate value that travels in the JSON body of every request.
- Set
BUCHHALTUNGSBUTLER_CLIENT_ID,BUCHHALTUNGSBUTLER_CLIENT_SECRETandBUCHHALTUNGSBUTLER_API_KEY.
Everything is a POST. BuchhaltungsButler's API does not use GET for reads — /postings/get, /receipts/get and the rest are POST endpoints whose body carries both the api_key and the filter. That is why these tools look like writes in the HTTP trace even when they only read; the tool names here say what each one actually does.
Paging uses limit and offset in the body. The default page is small; ask for what you need rather than looping.
Dates are YYYY-MM-DD strings. A posting's date is the booking date (Buchungsdatum), which is not the same as the receipt date.
Unverified: the endpoint paths and field names below follow BuchhaltungsButler's published documentation but have not been exercised against a live tenant. Treat a 404 as a docs-vs-reality gap and check docs.buchhaltungsbutler.de before assuming the credential is wrong.
