How to Connect DoubleTick to Gemini — via MCP

DoubleTick + Gemini

DoubleTick WhatsApp Business inbox: connected WhatsApp numbers, chats and message history, customers with tags and custom fields, templates, broadcast groups, team, notes, quick replies and wallet balance, plus sending text, media and template messages.

Prerequisites

See the full setup instructions baked into the connector (visible in the in-app store when you select the connector). The required environment variables for this connector are:

Step 1 — Get credentials

1. In the DoubleTick web app (web.doubletick.io), open Settings → Developer Documentation and click Create new key.
2. Paste the key into DOUBLETICK_API_KEY. It goes into the Authorization header as is, without Bearer.
3. Call doubletick_list_channels first. It lists the WhatsApp business numbers (wabaNumber) the key can use, and almost every other tool needs one of them.

The key acts as the user who created it. It sees the WhatsApp numbers, chats and templates assigned to that user. If doubletick_list_channels returns an empty list, no number is assigned to that user: have an admin assign one, or create the key with an account that has the numbers.

WhatsApp rules: free-form text, image and document messages only go out within 24 hours of the customer's last message. Check with doubletick_get_chat_window_status; outside the window, send an approved template with doubletick_send_template_message. Sending costs WhatsApp conversation fees from the DoubleTick wallet (doubletick_get_wallet_balance). Phone numbers always carry the country code, for example 919876543210.

Errors and limits: DoubleTick answers 422 when nothing is found, not only for bad input, for example when no template matches the numbers asked for. Limits are per organisation: 300 chat-message calls per minute, 180 customer-detail calls per minute, 60 note calls per minute and one message-status call per second.

Step 2 — Install the adapter

Step 3 — Add the connector in Gemini

Your server URL: in AnythingMCP, open MCP Servers → the server this connector is on, and copy its URL (https://cloud.anythingmcp.com/mcp/…). Use it wherever this guide shows YOUR_SERVER_ID.

Gemini CLI reads MCP servers from ~/.gemini/settings.json (on Windows %USERPROFILE%\.gemini\settings.json). Add:

1. Create an MCP API key in AnythingMCP under MCP Servers → your server → API keys, and paste it in place of YOUR_MCP_API_KEY.
2. Save the file and restart gemini.
3. Run /mcp inside Gemini CLI (or gemini mcp list in your shell) — anythingmcp should show as connected.
4. Start prompting — Gemini CLI can now call the DoubleTick tools.
