Query a Microsoft SQL Server database directly: list tables, describe columns and run read-only T-SQL. Supports SQL Server and Windows (NTLM) authentication. Installs read-only.

Prerequisites

See the full setup instructions baked into the connector (visible in the in-app store when you select the connector). The required environment variables for this connector are:

MSSQL_HOST, MSSQL_PORT, MSSQL_DATABASE, MSSQL_USER, MSSQL_PASSWORD

Step 1 — Get credentials

Setup

1. Create a login and a database user with only db_datareader:

   CREATE LOGIN amcp_reader WITH PASSWORD = 'change-me';
   USE sales;
   CREATE USER amcp_reader FOR LOGIN amcp_reader;
   ALTER ROLE db_datareader ADD MEMBER amcp_reader;
   

2. Set MSSQL_HOST, MSSQL_PORT (1433), MSSQL_DATABASE, MSSQL_USER and MSSQL_PASSWORD.

Windows authentication: set MSSQL_DOMAIN as well and the engine switches to NTLM instead of SQL Server auth. Leave it blank for a SQL login.

Step 2 — Install the adapter

Step 3 — Add the connector in Cursor

Your server URL: in AnythingMCP, open MCP Servers → the server this connector is on, and copy its URL (https://cloud.anythingmcp.com/mcp/…). Use it wherever this guide shows YOUR_SERVER_ID.

Cursor reads MCP servers from ~/.cursor/mcp.json. Add this entry:

1. Get your MCP API key from AnythingMCP → MCP Servers → your server → API keys.
2. Save the file and restart Cursor.
3. Open Cursor → Settings → MCP to verify Microsoft SQL Server is listed and "Connected".
4. Start chatting — all Microsoft SQL Server tools are now invokable.
