Summary
Connect Microsoft SQL Server to Muse via MCP: list tables, describe columns, run read-only T-SQL. SQL Server or Windows (NTLM) auth, no code.

Microsoft SQL Server + Meta Muse
Query a Microsoft SQL Server database directly: list tables, describe columns and run read-only T-SQL. Supports SQL Server and Windows (NTLM) authentication. Installs read-only.
Prerequisites
See the full setup instructions baked into the connector (visible in the in-app store when you select the connector). The required environment variables for this connector are:
MSSQL_HOST, MSSQL_PORT, MSSQL_DATABASE, MSSQL_USER, MSSQL_PASSWORD
Step 1 — Get credentials
Setup
- Create a login and a database user with only
db_datareader:CREATE LOGIN amcp_reader WITH PASSWORD = 'change-me'; USE sales; CREATE USER amcp_reader FOR LOGIN amcp_reader; ALTER ROLE db_datareader ADD MEMBER amcp_reader; - Set
MSSQL_HOST,MSSQL_PORT(1433),MSSQL_DATABASE,MSSQL_USERandMSSQL_PASSWORD.
Windows authentication: set MSSQL_DOMAIN as well and the engine switches to NTLM instead of SQL Server auth. Leave it blank for a SQL login.
…(continued in the in-app connector instructions)
Step 2 — Install the adapter
curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/HelpCode-ai/anythingmcp/main/docker-compose.quickstart.yml -o docker-compose.yml
printf 'JWT_SECRET=%s\nENCRYPTION_KEY=%s\n' "$(openssl rand -hex 32)" "$(openssl rand -hex 32)" > .env
docker compose up -d
Step 3 — Add the connector in Muse
Your server URL: in AnythingMCP, open MCP Servers → the server this connector is on, and copy its URL (
https://cloud.anythingmcp.com/mcp/…). Use it wherever this guide showsYOUR_SERVER_ID.
Muse adds remote MCP servers as custom connectors and signs in to them with OAuth.
- In Muse, open Settings → Connectors and choose Add custom connector.
- Paste the MCP server URL
https://cloud.anythingmcp.com/mcp/YOUR_SERVER_ID. - Muse opens the AnythingMCP sign-in page: sign in and approve access.
- In a chat, ask Muse for something that needs the
Microsoft SQL Servertools.
You can also set it up from a chat, on the web, in the iOS and Android apps or in WhatsApp. Send Muse this message:
Create a Custom Connector for a new remote MCP server, then connect to it:
Name: AnythingMCP
Transport: remote streamable HTTP
URL: https://cloud.anythingmcp.com/mcp/YOUR_SERVER_ID
Auth: OAuth
Self-hosting? Use your instance's public HTTPS address instead of https://cloud.anythingmcp.com. Muse connects from Meta's cloud, so localhost does not work.
Available tools
| Tool | What it does |
|---|---|
mssql_list_tables | List the tables and views in the database with their schema and, where the server tracks it, an approximate row count |
mssql_describe_table | Describe one table: every column with its data type, nullability and default |
mssql_find_columns | Find columns across every table whose name matches a pattern — the fast way to locate where customer e-mail addresses, IBANs or order number |
mssql_query | Run a read-only SQL statement against Microsoft SQL Server and return up to 1000 rows |
mssql_query_examples | Show worked example queries for Microsoft SQL Server: how to list schemas, find large tables, inspect indexes and check what is running righ |
FAQ
Is there an MCP server for SQL Server? Yes. AnythingMCP's SQL Server connector gives Claude, ChatGPT and Copilot five tools: list tables, describe a table, find columns, run a query and example queries. It runs on AnythingMCP Cloud or self-hosted next to your database.
Can Muse change data in SQL Server? No, by default. The query tool only runs a single SELECT and blocks INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE, DDL and stacked statements. Give the login SELECT rights only as well.
Does it support Windows authentication? Yes, SQL Server logins and Windows (NTLM) accounts both work; see Step 1.
My SQL Server is on the internal network. Does that work?
Yes, with a self-hosted AnythingMCP on the same network and the server's hostname in SSRF_ALLOWED_HOSTS. AnythingMCP Cloud can only reach a server exposed to the internet.
Where is Muse available? Meta currently offers Muse in the US and Canada, on the web, in the iOS and Android apps and in WhatsApp.
Does Meta review this connector? No. Meta doesn't review custom connectors. Muse sees only the tools you switched on for this MCP server in AnythingMCP, and you can disconnect it anytime under Settings → Connectors.
