Claude is AI and can make mistakes. Please double-check responses.
Self-hosted only. The Reddit connector is not in the AnythingMCP Cloud catalog, so it cannot be installed on AnythingMCP Cloud. It runs on an AnythingMCP instance you host yourself with Docker, as described below.
Reddit + Meta Muse
Let Muse search Reddit and read subreddits, posts, comment threads and public user profiles. The connector is read-only: 7 tools on Reddit's official OAuth2 API, using an app-only token that AnythingMCP fetches and renews for you.
What it can and cannot do
- Can: search posts across Reddit or inside one subreddit, list a subreddit's hot, new, top or rising posts, read a post with its full comment tree, and look up a subreddit's details or a user's public profile and posts.
- Cannot: post, comment, vote, save, or read your own account and subscriptions. Those need a logged-in Reddit user; this connector only uses an app-only token, which sees public content.
Step 1 — Create a Reddit app
- Sign in to Reddit and open reddit.com/prefs/apps.
- Click Create another app (or Create an app) and choose the type script. Any name works. The form requires a redirect URI: enter
http://localhost:8080(the connector never uses it). - Copy the client ID, the string under the app name next to "personal use script", and the secret.
These two values become REDDIT_CLIENT_ID and REDDIT_CLIENT_SECRET. You don't need your Reddit password or an access token: AnythingMCP exchanges the pair for a one-hour token and renews it on its own.
Since late 2025, Reddit's Responsible Builder Policy requires approval before a new app may use the Data API. If your app is new, request access in Reddit Help (Data API) first; an app you already had keeps working. The free tier allows about 100 requests per minute per app; high-volume commercial use falls under Reddit's Data API terms.
Step 2 — Run AnythingMCP and install the connector
curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/HelpCode-ai/anythingmcp/main/docker-compose.quickstart.yml -o docker-compose.yml
printf 'JWT_SECRET=%s\nENCRYPTION_KEY=%s\n' "$(openssl rand -hex 32)" "$(openssl rand -hex 32)" > .env
docker compose up -d
- Open
http://localhost:3000and register. The first account becomes the admin. - Open the connector store (
http://localhost:3000/connectors/store), pick Reddit, enter the client ID and secret and install it. The install form checks them right away by reading r/reddit. - Under MCP Servers, create a server and assign the Reddit connector to it. On the server's page, copy the MCP endpoint (
http://localhost:4000/mcp/<server-id>) and generate a key under API keys.
The quickstart listens on localhost only. For an instance that other people or cloud-based AI clients can reach, clone the repository and run ./setup.sh, which sets up a domain, HTTPS and OAuth (deployment guide).
Step 3 — Add the connector in Muse
Muse connects to MCP servers from Meta's cloud, so it cannot reach the localhost endpoint of the quickstart. To use Reddit in Muse you need an AnythingMCP instance with a public HTTPS address (see ./setup.sh above). In Muse, open Settings → Connectors, choose Add custom connector, paste the instance's MCP endpoint and sign in to AnythingMCP when Muse asks (OAuth, which ./setup.sh sets up by default).
If a public instance is not an option, use a client that runs on your computer instead: Claude Code, Cursor or Gemini CLI reach localhost directly.
Available tools

reddit_get_user_posts | A user's public submitted posts |
reddit_search_subreddit | Search posts inside one subreddit (GET /r/{subreddit}/search with restrict_sr=true, so results come from that subreddit only) |
FAQ
Can I use the Reddit connector on AnythingMCP Cloud? No. It is not in the Cloud catalog, so it can only be installed on AnythingMCP you host yourself. The setup above works on any machine that runs Docker.
Can Muse post, comment or vote through this connector? No. The connector reads public content with an app-only token. Posting, commenting, voting and saving need a logged-in Reddit user, which it does not use.
What does Reddit's "Blocked" page mean? The request reached Reddit without a valid token. Check the client ID and secret on the connector; a wrong pair shows up as "could not obtain an access token from www.reddit.com (HTTP 401)".
Where is Muse available? Meta currently offers Muse in the US and Canada, on the web, in the iOS and Android apps and in WhatsApp.
Does Meta review this connector? No. Meta doesn't review custom connectors. Muse sees only the tools you switched on for this MCP server in AnythingMCP, and you can disconnect it anytime under Settings → Connectors.
