Smartsheet

Smartsheet

Let your AI work in Smartsheet: search and read sheets, rows, columns, sheet summaries and cell history, comments and attachments, browse workspaces, folders, reports and dashboards, list users and shares, and add, update or delete rows, add columns, comment, create sheets, share and send update requests. Smartsheet API 2.0 with a personal access token (US, EU, AU or Gov).

Configurare Smartsheet

Direttamente dalla definizione del connettore: dove trovare le credenziali, quali permessi servono e con quale API parla questo adapter. Fornite in inglese dall'autore del connettore.

Smartsheet

This connector works with Smartsheet through its REST API 2.0 (https://api.smartsheet.com/2.0, or the EU, AU and Gov hosts): sheets with their rows, columns and cells, sheet summaries, cell history, comments, attachments, workspaces and folders, reports, dashboards, users and sharing. It can add, change and delete rows, add and change columns, comment, create sheets, share and send update requests. Every call runs as the user who owns the access token, with that user's access to each sheet.

Setup (2 minutes)

  1. Sign in to Smartsheet, click your account icon (bottom left) and open Apps & Integrations (or Personal Settings), then API Access.
  2. Click Generate new access token, name it (e.g. AnythingMCP) and copy the token: it is shown only once.
  3. Paste it into SMARTSHEET_ACCESS_TOKEN.
  4. Set SMARTSHEET_API_URL to the host of your account's region: https://api.smartsheet.com/2.0 (app.smartsheet.com, US), https://api.smartsheet.eu/2.0 (app.smartsheet.eu), https://api.smartsheet.au/2.0 (app.smartsheet.au) or https://api.smartsheetgov.com/2.0 (Smartsheet Gov). A token only works on its own region's host; elsewhere Smartsheet answers 401 "invalid access token".
  5. Run smartsheet_get_current_user to check.

API access needs a paid plan (Pro, Business, Enterprise or Advanced Work Management). A token can do what its user can do in Smartsheet; use a dedicated user with access only to the sheets the AI should see when that matters.

Ids: sheets, rows, columns, workspaces, folders, reports and users have long numeric ids (up to 16 digits). Pass them as text exactly as returned. Dashboards are called sights in the API.

Workflow

  • Find things: smartsheet_search (names and content of everything; scopes such as sheetNames narrows it), smartsheet_list_sheets, smartsheet_list_reports, smartsheet_list_dashboards.
  • Browse the structure: smartsheet_list_workspaces → smartsheet_get_workspace and smartsheet_list_workspace_children → smartsheet_get_folder and smartsheet_list_folder_children.
  • Read a sheet: smartsheet_list_columns for column ids and types, then smartsheet_get_sheet (rows with cells; filter with row_numbers, row_ids, column_ids, rows_modified_since or a page of rows), smartsheet_get_row for one row, smartsheet_search_sheet to find rows by text, smartsheet_get_sheet_summary for the summary fields, smartsheet_get_cell_history for who changed a cell and when.
  • Comments: smartsheet_list_discussions and smartsheet_list_row_discussions (with include=comments), smartsheet_create_discussion, smartsheet_create_row_discussion, smartsheet_add_comment.
  • Attachments: smartsheet_list_attachments, smartsheet_list_row_attachments, smartsheet_get_attachment for a short-lived download URL. Uploading files is not part of this connector.
  • Reports and dashboards: smartsheet_get_report (rows from several sheets, cells keyed by virtualColumnId), smartsheet_get_dashboard (widgets).
  • People and sharing: smartsheet_list_users, smartsheet_get_user, smartsheet_list_shares, smartsheet_share_asset.
  • Change data: smartsheet_add_rows, smartsheet_update_rows, smartsheet_delete_rows, smartsheet_add_columns, smartsheet_update_column, smartsheet_create_sheet_in_workspace, smartsheet_create_sheet_in_folder, smartsheet_create_update_request.

Writing cells: a cell is {"columnId": <id>, "value": <value>}. Read the column types first: DATE takes YYYY-MM-DD, CHECKBOX true/false, PICKLIST one of its options (others are refused unless strict is false), CONTACT_LIST an email address, numbers as numbers. Use "formula": "=..." instead of value for a formula. New rows need a location (toBottom, toTop, parentId or siblingId). Columns with a column formula, system columns (auto number, created date, modified by) and locked columns cannot be written. smartsheet_update_rows changes only the cells given.

Confirm before changing: deleting rows (smartsheet_delete_rows) cannot be undone through the API, sharing gives people access, update requests and shares with send_email send emails. Ask the user before calling them.

Reading the answers: dates and times are ISO 8601 in UTC (2026-10-30T14:05:00Z); date cells are YYYY-MM-DD. value is the raw value, displayValue what Smartsheet shows (formatted numbers, contact names). Multi-contact and multi-picklist cells come back as text unless you pass level (2 or 3) and include=objectValue. accessLevel is VIEWER, COMMENTER, EDITOR, EDITOR_SHARE, ADMIN or OWNER. Write calls answer {"message": "SUCCESS", "resultCode": 0, "result": ...}; resultCode 3 means partial success.

Paging: sheets, columns, discussions, attachments, users and cell history page with page and page_size (100 by default; the answer has totalPages and totalCount) or include_all. Workspaces, workspace and folder children, dashboards and shares page with a token: pass lastKey from the answer as last_key until it is missing. Read big sheets in pages of rows or with filters.

Limits: 300 requests per minute per token (cell history: 30 per minute). A 429 answer (error code 4003) means wait a minute. Bulk row calls count as one request; keep them under a few hundred rows.

Errors: 401 (1002/1003/1004) invalid or expired token, or the wrong region host; 403 (1004) the user lacks access to that item; 404 (1006) the id does not exist or is not visible; 400 with an errorCode and message naming the problem (for example a value not in the dropdown list, a missing location for a new row, or writing a column that holds a column formula).

Switched off at install: smartsheet_delete_rows, because deleted rows cannot be restored through the API; an admin switches it on when the team needs it.
