Guides for Fortnox

Step-by-step setup for the most popular AI clients.

Setting up Fortnox

From the connector definition itself: where to find the credentials, what they need to be allowed to do, and which API this adapter talks to.

Setup

  1. Register at the Fortnox Developer Portal and create an integration. Add the redirect URI https://cloud.anythingmcp.com/api/mcp-oauth/callback on AnythingMCP Cloud, or <your AnythingMCP server URL>/api/mcp-oauth/callback when you host AnythingMCP yourself, and enable the scopes settings, customer, invoice, supplierinvoice, order, article and bookkeeping. You receive a client id and client secret.
  2. Set FORTNOX_CLIENT_ID and FORTNOX_CLIENT_SECRET, leave FORTNOX_REFRESH_TOKEN empty, and install.
  3. Open the connector and click Authorize with Provider. Sign in with a user of the customer's Fortnox account, approve, and you land back on the connector page. AnythingMCP refreshes the access token on its own.

Scopes: settings customer invoice supplierinvoice order article bookkeeping, one per tool area. Fortnox scopes always grant read and write. The authorization URL carries access_type=offline, without which Fortnox issues no refresh token.

Already have a refresh token? You can paste it into FORTNOX_REFRESH_TOKEN instead of step 3, if you obtained it yourself for the same integration and have not used it since (see below).

The legacy Access-Token header is gone. Fortnox retired the old Access-Token + Client-Secret header pair; if you find an example using those, it is pre-2022 and will not work. OAuth 2.0 is the only path now.

Refresh tokens rotate. Fortnox issues a new refresh token on every refresh and invalidates the old one. AnythingMCP persists the rotated value back into the connector, but a refresh token you tested by hand, or share with another script, is spent and the connector fails with invalid_grant. Authorize again from the connector page to get a fresh one.

Rate limit is roughly 25 requests per 5 seconds per token, answered with 429. Pace bulk work.

Responses wrap the rows in the resource name: {"Customers": [...], "MetaInformation": {...}}. The paging totals live in MetaInformation (@TotalPages, @TotalResources).

financialyear matters for vouchers. Fortnox scopes bookkeeping to a financial year id; without one it uses the current year, which is a surprise in January.

Cloud reachability: api.fortnox.se is public with a valid certificate.
