Guides for Freepik

Step-by-step setup for the most popular AI clients.

Setting up Freepik

From the connector definition itself: where to find the credentials, what they need to be allowed to do, and which API this adapter talks to.

Freepik

This connector uses the Freepik API, which Freepik now publishes as the Magnific API (https://api.magnific.com, documentation at docs.magnific.com; docs.freepik.com redirects there). The stock catalog is Freepik's: photos, vectors, PSD templates, Flaticon icons and stock video. Existing Freepik API keys keep working.

Setup

Create an API key under Account → Organization → API keys on magnific.com (formerly freepik.com/api) and put it in FREEPIK_API_KEY. It is sent in the x-magnific-api-key header (the older x-freepik-api-key header name is accepted too). Keys are server-side secrets; the API has no OAuth.

Costs

The API is billed in credits. Searching and reading details is cheap; every call to freepik_download_resource, freepik_download_resource_format and freepik_download_icon registers a download on the account, and freepik_generate_image_mystic spends AI credits. Those tools are marked as writes so the client asks before calling them. Download only what the user actually wants to use.

Start here

  • Photos, vectors, PSDs: freepik_search_resources with a term, then freepik_get_resource for licence, formats and author, then freepik_download_resource for a time-limited download URL.
  • Icons: freepik_search_icons, then freepik_download_icon with format svg or png.
  • Video: freepik_search_videos (a term is required).
  • AI images: freepik_generate_image_mystic returns a task_id; poll freepik_get_mystic_task every few seconds until status is COMPLETED, then generated holds the image URLs.

Filters

Search filters are sent as filters[...] query parameters. For resources, pass 1 on photo, vector or psd to restrict the content type, 1 on freemium or premium for the licence, and 1 on an orientation. Several flags of the same group can be combined. language sets the Accept-Language header (e.g. es-ES, pt-BR) so titles and the search term are handled in that language; the default is en-US.

Licences

Each resource carries licenses[].type: freemium resources need attribution to Freepik/the author unless the account has a premium plan; premium resources need a plan that includes them. The licence PDF is linked in licenses[].url. Check this before telling a user an asset can be used commercially.

Pagination and rate limits

Resources: page (1-100) and limit; icons: page and per_page. The meta.pagination object gives the total and last page. Limits: 50 requests per second per IP in a 5-second window, 10 per second averaged over two minutes, and 30,000 per minute per key; a 429 means wait and retry.

Pitfalls

  • Ids are integers; a resource id comes from the number at the end of a freepik.com URL (..._1540200.htm).
  • Download URLs expire after a short time; download them right away instead of storing the link.
  • freepik_download_resource_format only works for formats listed in the resource's meta.available_formats.
  • Icon search answers 404 instead of an empty list for some filter combinations with no match (seen with shape outline plus free_svg free). Drop a filter and search again.
