Guides for GetResponse

Step-by-step setup for the most popular AI clients.

Setting up GetResponse

From the connector definition itself: where to find the credentials, what they need to be allowed to do, and which API this adapter talks to.

GetResponse

This connector uses the GetResponse API v3 (https://api.getresponse.com/v3, or the GetResponse MAX hosts) for email marketing: campaigns (GetResponse's name for contact lists), contacts with tags and custom fields, saved segments and ad-hoc contact search, newsletters from draft to sending with their statistics, autoresponders, sender addresses and list growth reports. Landing pages, webinars, forms, ecommerce, SMS, workflows and transactional emails are not part of it.

Setup (2 minutes)

  1. In GetResponse open Tools, Integrations and API, API (https://app.getresponse.com/api) and generate an API key. It acts with the full rights of the account; an unused key expires after 90 days.
  2. Paste the key into GETRESPONSE_API_KEY (only the key; the connector sends X-Auth-Token: api-key <key>).
  3. GETRESPONSE_API_URL: https://api.getresponse.com/v3 for a standard GetResponse account.
  4. GetResponse MAX: set GETRESPONSE_API_URL to https://api3.getresponse360.com/v3 (or https://api3.getresponse360.pl/v3 for the Polish data centre) and GETRESPONSE_DOMAIN to your MAX domain (only the name, e.g. example.com); it is sent as the X-Domain header. Leave GETRESPONSE_DOMAIN empty otherwise.
  5. Run getresponse_get_account to check.

Workflow

  • Account: getresponse_get_account, getresponse_get_sending_limits, getresponse_list_timezones (time zone ids for scheduled sends).
  • Lists: getresponse_list_campaigns, getresponse_get_campaign, getresponse_list_campaign_contacts, getresponse_create_campaign. Growth and churn: getresponse_get_campaigns_summary, getresponse_get_campaign_list_size, getresponse_get_campaign_subscriptions, getresponse_get_campaign_removals.
  • Contacts: find with getresponse_list_contacts (by email, name, list, origin, dates), read with getresponse_get_contact and getresponse_list_contact_activities (sends, opens, clicks). Write with getresponse_create_contact, getresponse_update_contact, getresponse_upsert_contact_tags, getresponse_upsert_contact_custom_fields. getresponse_delete_contact is installed switched off.
  • Tags and fields: getresponse_list_tags, getresponse_get_tag, getresponse_create_tag; getresponse_list_custom_fields, getresponse_get_custom_field, getresponse_create_custom_field.
  • Segments: getresponse_list_segments, getresponse_get_segment, getresponse_list_segment_contacts; ad-hoc filters with getresponse_search_contacts.
  • Senders: getresponse_list_from_fields, getresponse_get_from_field (a newsletter needs a from_field_id).
  • Newsletters: getresponse_list_newsletters, getresponse_get_newsletter, results with getresponse_get_newsletter_statistics and getresponse_get_newsletters_statistics. Create with getresponse_create_newsletter, send a draft with getresponse_send_newsletter_draft, stop a scheduled one with getresponse_cancel_newsletter.
  • Autoresponders: getresponse_list_autoresponders, getresponse_get_autoresponder, getresponse_get_autoresponder_statistics, getresponse_get_autoresponders_statistics.

Sending is real: confirm first. getresponse_create_newsletter with type broadcast and getresponse_send_newsletter_draft email real people. Prefer type draft, show the user the subject, sender, content and the recipients in send_settings (lists, segments, exclusions, time), and send only after a clear yes. send_settings uses GetResponse's keys, e.g. {"selectedCampaigns": ["V"], "excludedSegments": ["R"], "sendOn": {"date": "2026-11-14T07:00:00", "timeZone": {"timeZoneId": 282}}}; without sendOn the send starts at once. Creating newsletters is limited to 256 calls a day.

Contacts

  • getresponse_create_contact answers 202 Accepted with an empty body: the contact is queued, not yet visible. Look it up a little later with getresponse_list_contacts (email, exact_match: exactMatch). 409 means the email is already on that list. If the list uses double opt-in for the API channel, the contact first gets a confirmation email; unconfirmed contacts are not returned by the list tools, only by getresponse_search_contacts with subscribers_type: ["unconfirmed"]. A contact can also be rejected later in the queue, so a missing contact after a few minutes means it was not added.
  • Tags are [{"tagId": "..."}], custom field values [{"customFieldId": "...", "value": ["..."]}] (value is always a list of strings).
  • In getresponse_update_contact, tags and custom_field_values replace what the contact has; use the upsert tools to add.
  • getresponse_list_contacts matches email and name partially; add exact_match: exactMatch for an exact email.

Ad-hoc search (getresponse_search_contacts): subscribers_type (e.g. ["subscribed"]), section_logic_operator (or/and) and section, a list of {"campaignIdsList": ["V"], "logicOperator": "and", "subscriberCycle": ["receiving_autoresponder", "not_receiving_autoresponder"], "subscriptionDate": "all_time", "conditions": [...]}. Conditions: a tag {"conditionType": "tag", "operatorType": "exists", "operator": "exists", "value": "<tagId>"}, an email {"conditionType": "email", "operatorType": "string_operator", "operator": "contains", "value": "@example.com"}, a custom field {"conditionType": "custom", "scope": "<customFieldId>", "operatorType": "string_operator", "operator": "is", "value": "..."}. Reading the answers

  • Ids are short strings (V, pV3r). Campaign means contact list throughout the API.
  • Times are ISO 8601 in UTC. Date filters (created_from, created_to, ...) take YYYY-MM-DD or ISO 8601.
  • Statistics tools return figures keyed by period start (or total), per group_by (hour, day, month, total). Open and click counts depend on the account's open-tracking consent settings.
  • Use fields (comma-separated) to get smaller answers, e.g. fields: name, email on contacts. getresponse_list_autoresponders leaves the HTML content out; getresponse_get_newsletter and getresponse_get_autoresponder include it.
  • getresponse_get_autoresponders_statistics sends the filter as query[autoreponderId], the spelling the API documents.

Paging: lists return 100 items per page by default; per_page goes up to 1000 and page starts at 1. The answer carries _headers with totalcount, totalpages and currentpage; stop when currentpage equals totalpages or a page comes back empty ([]).

Limits: 30,000 calls per 10 minutes, 80 per second and at most 10 parallel requests per account. The answer to 429 says in context.timeToReset how many seconds to wait.

Errors: errors are JSON with httpStatus, code, message and context. 401 code 1014 means a wrong, expired or missing key (on GetResponse MAX also a missing GETRESPONSE_DOMAIN or the wrong API address); 400 names the invalid field in context; 404 an unknown id; 409 a duplicate (contact already on the list, existing name); 429 the rate limit.
