Getting a token (Kimai 2.x)
- Sign in to your Kimai instance, open your user profile and go to the API tab.
- Create an API token and copy it into
KIMAI_API_TOKEN. Kimai 2.x uses a bearer token here; the olderX-AUTH-USER/X-AUTH-TOKENheader pair from Kimai 1.x is deprecated and is not what this adapter sends. - Set
KIMAI_URLto the base URL of your instance without a trailing slash and without/api, e.g.https://time.example.com. The adapter appends/api.
Permissions follow the user. A token for a normal user only sees that user's timesheets. To report across the team, issue the token for a user with the view_other_timesheet permission — otherwise the answers will look quietly, wrongly small.
Kimai is self-hosted, which is the thing to plan for.
- On AnythingMCP Cloud the instance must be reachable from the public internet on a real hostname with a valid TLS certificate. A self-signed certificate will fail: the connector does not offer a trust-anything switch.
- On an internal host (
kimai.intern,10.0.0.x), self-host AnythingMCP on the same network and add that host toSSRF_ALLOWED_HOSTS, or the outbound guard will refuse the call before it is made.
Dates are ISO 8601, e.g. 2026-09-01T00:00:00. begin and end on the timesheet list filter the entry's start time.
Writes: kimai_create_timesheet books real time. kimai_stop_timesheet closes a running entry, which is not undoable from the API.
