Guides for Worksection
Step-by-step setup for the most popular AI clients.
Setting up Worksection
From the connector definition itself: where to find the credentials, what they need to be allowed to do, and which API this adapter talks to.
Authentication: OAuth 2.0 (user token). Worksection has two ways into its API. The administrative key signs every request with an MD5 hash of the query string plus the key, which this connector cannot compute, so it uses OAuth 2.0 instead: each call is made as the user who authorized the connector, with that user's role and the scopes granted.
Setup
- In Worksection click your avatar → Account settings → API and create an OAuth 2.0 application. Set the redirect URI to
<your AnythingMCP URL>/api/mcp-oauth/callback(on AnythingMCP Cloud:https://cloud.anythingmcp.com/api/mcp-oauth/callback). - Put its client id and client secret into
WORKSECTION_CLIENT_IDandWORKSECTION_CLIENT_SECRET, and your account address (https://youraccount.worksection.com) intoWORKSECTION_URL. - On the connector page click Authorize with Provider and sign in. The connector asks for the read and write scopes of projects, tasks, comments, costs and tags, plus read access to files, users and contacts. Access tokens last 24 hours and are renewed automatically; the refresh token lasts one month, so a connector unused for longer than that needs to be authorized again.
Rate limit: 1 request per second per account, and at most 10,000 records per answer ("Too many tasks (10000 max)"). Prefer worksection_list_tasks per project or worksection_search_tasks over worksection_list_all_tasks. GET requests are limited to 8 kB of URL.
Responses are {"status": "ok", "data": ...}. An error comes back as {"status": "error", "message": ...}, often with HTTP 200, so read status.
Ids and formats: project ids from worksection_list_projects, task ids from worksection_list_tasks or worksection_search_tasks. Users are addressed by e-mail (email_user_to), from worksection_list_users. Dates are DD.MM.YYYY. Time is 1.5, 1,5 or 1:30.
Which tool to start with: worksection_get_me, then worksection_list_projects → worksection_list_tasks (add filter=active for open tasks) → worksection_get_task or worksection_list_comments. Time reports: worksection_get_costs_total with a date range and extra=projects.
Write tools act as the connected user: create and update tasks, complete or reopen them, change tags, post comments (subscribers are notified), log time and run the user's timer. worksection_update_task cannot change a task's description, and its tags replace all current tags.
